    3-gun question

So I'm thinking about getting started in 3-gun. I have only competed in handgun (USPSA, IPSC), but I figured I'd expand my training. I just put a Stoeger M3K in jail, and was wondering which mag extension you guys would recommend. I'm looking at the MOA extension kit. Should I get the 5 round extension or a longer one? The 5 round takes the total capacity to 9+1 and only sticks out about 3/8" past the barrel. Would that be enough or should I add more length for more capacity?

    Thanks in advance.

    Nordic tube.

I'm flush to a 21" barrel with a +5 tube, I got the barrel and tube off someone as a package.
Yes, I'm at a disadvantage but I like the way my M1 handles.
I'm walking, not sprinting right now.
Most guys want a +7 tube they can at least start 8 in the gun and quad load+ after the buzzer.

Look at a stage, think of whatever division start, go from there.

What matches don't have Divisions similar to buy circuits?
A 9+1 start is 8 in my tube, 1 in the pipe, 1 ghost loaded for max.
No need for me to buy a coupler and a 4" 1 shot stub extension.
The math for a start should break down ideally to a dual load or a quad load after you start the stage.

Say you have a 2 slug 2 bird start, swing to 6 plates and end that window with 2 mandatory buck.
You start 8 in the gun, you have an 8rd tube.
I'm going to start 3 slugs, 2 bird, and load into the plates.
Ejecting the spare slug is faster than port loading one and losing a bird, then engaging 2 clays.
Quad load into the plate rack, bird or #4 buck it's kinda up to me to make the shots and decide how to want to end that window and walk to the next one.

Sure, I can be full all the time and engage the stage exactly how it's laid out and walk away if I miss one.
No DQ for improper shell selection.
I can also plan my reloads as I switch lane to lane and I may or may not need to be full up.

Kinda up to the guy designing the stage if it's going to be an easy 12 bird, start 8, quad load and just reload as needed.

If you have say a 6 mandatory buck on paper start then 5 bird how are you stuffing your tube?
If you miss your buck targets is it easier to go back to it later, walk away completely, port load, preload your tube with an extra?

Since the extension is the same price no matter what capacity you choose, I would err on longer rather than shorter.

Even though some matches only allow 8+1, that's only at the buzzer. Some stages you want to immediately upload before even stepping out of the box.

Also, once you're shooting, you can upload to whatever max capacity you have. That can come in handy depending on the stage design.

          I shoot 11+1 with a +3, and there have been times I wish I had purchased a +4 or +5.

Also, some club matches have no restrictions on capacity. So it will never hurt you to have more, but it can definitely hurt you to have less.

I think the OP should go as big as he can, within reason.
            Overhang shouldn't be a concern.
Get a +7 so you are 10+1, or bigger if you choose.

Open your loading port, get big bolt release, what have you.
Out of battery mod is a big one.
That used to bug me to no end.
My gun was always capable of ghost loading, you should back cut your bolt on your Stoeger.

You can play games with stock guns, no one says you have to buy a ton of stuff and do a bunch of permanent mods to your guns. I just got tired of beating up my hands loading. People were loading shotguns before quads were "the only way to go". There are some pretty fast guys out there with pistol grips and rifle/ghost ring sights.

I answered in the competition forum but to sort of repeat-

If your doing 3-gun nation Factory you can only be able to load 9 in the gun, so I keep a tube that allows me to do that just in case..

I would not get too caught up on quads to start, but IMO you must be proficient with all methods of shotgun loading. including weak hand, weak and strong hand dual, and weak and strong hand quads. I can kinda do quads weak handed, and suck slightly less at strong hand quads.

BTW I am shooting the Lincoln match in the morning if you care to mosey out you can try my M3500 and other gear out, I usually bring it as a backup to the Versmax. I will even have a spare rifle with me.

                  ^^^^^THIS

Honestly people should get a big domed safety like a Dave's metal works bc stock ones seem to disappear when the buzzer goes off.

I use the redneck bolt release bc its big and I bent it just right so I can fumble it anywhere.

I shoot an M1 so a Limbsaver instead of comfortech stock, slugs were nothing today.

Briley bolt handle comes in handy when you didn't realize the last shell didn't eject.

Extended tube is good, but lots of other little things can just screw up your run.

Full gun to division limit is nice and all but if you didn't set your shims to fit up, a weak vertical bird with a fast runner to a swinger over to poppers is a straight up mess.

                    A plus 7 will make an 11+1 in a stoeger m3k.

                    +5 = 9+1
                    +6 = 10+1

You can always get the plus 5 or plus 6 and buy a spare tube for approx $30 extra to have both.

You really want to think in multiples of 4, because on a longer shotgun stage it is often beneficial to load 4 at the beep and if you have 8 in the tube and 1 in the chamber then you end up throwing one on the ground. Likewise unless there is a compelling reason (like you have midget hands and cant throw quads) do not run a 10 round tube. Even if you cant run quad loads loading two hits of 2 off the buzzer will likely save you time later on the stage.

Weird, I thought they were like benelli's.
I mean, so many Stoeger guys swap in Benelli parts and say they're the same besides recoil system.

So go with an MXT tube at whatever starting capacity, and buy another tube or get extensions for the existing one.

The M3k can use the Benelli tirgger and a few other parts like the extractor, chokes are the same, and pretty sure you can get the stock to fit (havent rtied but I have eyeballed it) but the mag tube is different and the threads for it are different afaik, so you just order the Carbon arms tube, install it, and then pick your extension.

Anyone have a pic of the M3K with a +6 tube on it?
How much does it stick out past the barrel?
