Yes, 100 yards on the gong all day -
Plus about a 4-6 inch holdover. Ding!Comment

That really depends on the individual barrel.
For example, one of my 870's has a improved cylinder choke, 20" length, and rifle sights. At 100 yards, most of the various slug loads will easily go into a four (4") group, from a sand-bag rest at one hundred yards.
Repeat this using four groups of five rounds each, and you will have an idea.Comment

I had watched this video not too long ago. Thought it was an excellent representation and I like the way this guy does videos. Also learn about cut shells...added bonus!
Not even going to try to post a youtube embed video after the CG changes.

20" Benelli cylinder bore, it's OK.That really depends on the individual barrel.

21" Benelli with an IC choke on the same gun, center punching the A zone if you have a good hold. Adding a 10/22 rear sight makes slug shooting like a big bore rifle. It's fun.
Go find a 21" turkey barrel for that 870.
They're short enough, but have it where it counts.Comment

The express tactical model 18" with ghost ring sights or red-dot works well enough for me at 100 yds20" Benelli cylinder bore, it's OK.

I find my 21" barrel (IC) bead sight will get about 5-6" at 100 yards with ammo it "likes"---some will be 8+", but still good enough to annoy a man sized target…
My 18" barrel (CYL) bead sight will not do that well, but you should still be able to hit a man sized target.
My 21" rifle sight barrel with screw-in chokes will do the best with it's "rifled" choke---but again, this depends on the ammo...Comment

Each shotgun is different. You are asking about a specific slug. They may shoot great out of your 870 or horrible. It is much more expensive to wed yourself to a specific shell and find a shotgun for it, than to wed yourself to a shotgun and find the ammunition it shoots best.Comment

This is really dependent on your skill, the inherant accuracy of the shotgun in question, and finding slugs it likes.
For what it's worth, many have told me using rifled slugs in a smooth bore is a wasted effort, but I have killed many deer and pigs with an old winchester model 12 16 gauge and slugs. I upgraded to a mossberg 500 with a rifled bore a couple years back as the solid copper slugs I wanted to use mandated a rifled bore.Buying a safe and sane firework is like paying a hooker for a hug. I do not see the appeal in it.Comment

Every single gun is different in what it likes to eat. Your 870 may be completely different than your neighbors 870.
The ONLY way to find out what your 870 likes is to test as many slugs from different manufacturers as you can. It should become very apparent which it likes best.
My shotgun likes Fiocchi Low Recoil the best. It's 4 MOA with that shell and dead center. With Remington Slugger, it's 6 MOA and 6" high and right. With Federal Power-Shok, they were like knuckle balls. It was 8 MOA and they were all over the place. RIO Low Recoil also performed pretty well in my gun. You get the idea. My shotguns showed some pretty wide variances with different shells.
Picking a single slug and then hunting for the gun that likes it is going to be a very expensive and probably futile endeavor."Show me a young conservative and I'll show you a man without a heart. Show me an old liberal and I'll show you a man without a brain." - Sir Winston Churchill
