My first over-under, Citori CX, gets out of jail Wed. I've been shooting trap singles with my 870 for years, and eventually got pretty good at it. Then started Continental and double...so needed a new tool.
Questions:
what choke (top/bottom)...I think it comes with IC, Mod, and full
Which barrel fires first

Any other info appreciated. Looking forward to shooting it

Trap doubles I used to shoot bottom barrel first ic or skeet,,,, Upper barrel second would be full choke... Quick (asap) on the first shot ,, and then more time to track the second... Getting to the second before it starts dropping was my goal.. I didn't shoot doubles very often,, rookie that i was... So try different things according to your speed picking up your second bird.. Try not to rush your second shot,, smooth wins.. Cheers..

For Trap doubles you only need IC and Mod. Reason is that you need to pick up on your first bird quick and fire away. DO NOT pause or think about the first bird, go after the second one immediately. At 16 yards the IC pattern is forgiving and it can afford you that slack to be not spot on the target. You need as much time as you can get to get the second bird. Mod is good enough to reach the target before it's a lost cause.
As for Continental trap or International trap the bird is smaller and made out of harder clay hence the BB's pattern should be as tight as possible to break it. For this you will need Mod and Full. Beretta DT11 has a bunker model that is a fixed choke O/U and it is for this purpose only. I am sure there are other brands out there that makes similar O/U but that gives you an idea on what to expect. I highly recommend a set of good chokes to go along with the O/U. My personal favorite is Mueller Chokes.
Also you need much faster shells for continental trap (1300fps or faster and Olympic standard is 7/8oz load) and for doubles trap any Walmart special will do. Most Walmart is 1 ⅛oz, 1125fps 3DRAM loads. Too slow for continental trap.

As far as the question about which barrel fires first, there should be a barrel selector on the gun, assuming the CX is like every other Citori I've shot. You can set the gun up to fire the top barrel first or the bottom barrel first, depending on your preference. The same selector is also used to set the safety.

Set the gun to fire the bottom barrel first, there is a selector.
For chokes, it depends on what line you are firing from...
From the 16yd line IC/MOD works well, I used to use MOD/IMP MOD (I don't shoot Trap anymore)
From the 27yd line IMP MOD/FULL

Adjust as required for your skill level and shooting line.
