Never initiate force against another. That should be the underlying principle of your life. But should someone do violence to you, retaliate without hesitation, without reservation, without quarter, until you are sure that he will never wish to harm - or never be capable of harming - you or yours again.

And it will usually be the wrong idea. Prices on old doubles are soft now, but the best way to get a real fix on value is to go over the auction sites and see what they have actually sold for. Asking prices are completely irrelevant. As a point of info, I bought a pretty nice Ideal 12 a few years ago for about $1100. But it is an unmolested Featherweight ejector with 28" barrels. Condition is 80% of the value, and configuration will determine the other 20%. There is a lot to learn about Elsies, and the details are important. You can post questions on doublegunshop.com or on the Shooting Sportsman forums. You can learn a lot by visiting the LC Smith Collectors Assn website, lots of pics and descriptions, and a very knowledgeable bunch. If you can find a copy of the Houchins book, it has a wealth of info, certainly the best book ever on Elsies. https://www.amazon.com/L-C-Smith-Leg.../dp/B0045DYGYE

I missed out on a refinished .410 bore Field grade for, I think $1800. I was just a day too late, and sad because of it.
