    Standard Rem 1100 to Tactical

I've been seeing standard used 1100s, how easily can I convert that to the "tactical" model Remington sells? I don't know much about shotguns so I'm not sure if the barrels on the pump-actions are the same as those on the semi-autos. Does anyone know where to buy 18" barrels for the 1100?

I've scoured the internet and nothing fruitful has turned up, thanks in advance.

Do some searching on the 1100 - perhaps using the terms 1100 and reliability, failure to feed, etc. From what I've read when you get down shorter then 21" you have issues with the gas system working UNTIL you, or your gunsmith, tune it.

The barrels are not the same on the pump guns - you have to get an 1100 barrel because it has the gas ports on it. They make a 21" rifle sight barrel that you can screw in a choke for the 1100.

Frankly I'm not sure if an 1187 barrel will work on an 1100, but my guess is it will.

Hope that helps. One thing I've learned about the Remington first hand is that the more you take it away from stock the more likely you are to have issues that you must tune. That could be said about nearly everything from vehicles to guns, but it is not a plug and play environment like a pump gun.

Fairly easy to make a pawn shop 1100 into a "tactical" one.

Call up Remington and order the "tactical" barrel from them. it's like $ 200 or so. Sell the take off barrel or keep it for ???. Daves Metal Works (DMW) make extensions for the mag tube,Easy loader gate and tactical bolt handle. Fairly strait forward install or send to DMW & I think he will do all the work.

Cheapest way is to get a good deal on the shotgun then cut down the barrel and have screw ins installed.

Or buy a Mossberg 930 and have a better gun, for about the same money.

I have done this to my 1100. I just downloaded the .pdf parts list off Remington's website and called them up for the barrel, mag extension + clamp + spring, and improved carrier assembly.

I did this a year ago and they only had the 22 inch "competition master barrel" available at the time and not the 18.5. My 22" barrel to my surprise cycles 7.5 birdshot all day long.

There are probably better options to a defensive semi-auto shotgun, but I have used 1100s for years and am very familiar with them. They have proven very reliable and robust. I recently ordered the 18.5" 1100 and I have doubts it will cycle birdshot.

My vintage 1978 1100 with "22 factory barrel.
