    5-Stand

So, I shot a 23 on the trap range and then headed over to the 5-stand to try it for the first time ever. I ended up with a 6.

    Very different disciplines.

Sporting clays is like 5-stand, but with seven more stations

Trap and skeet are games of repeatable target presentations. Station one is station one wether you're in California or Florida.

Sporting clays, 5-stand, FITASC are games of ever changing target presentations. That's why every year there are fewer than a handful of 100 straights, shot.

You guys that shoot skeet at Triple B should wander over and join me some time. I won't bite.

          It will humble you quick!

I tried 5-stand for the 1st time last June. Similar story. I've been shooting a couple rounds a week and my skills & scores have improved. The range I usually shoot at is open 2 days a week and target presentations are changed every day. Sometimes between rounds. Very few hit 20+ on this range, and only a couple of 24+ a year.

          Fun & addicting!

In the Sunnyvale range, they operate a popular 5-stand, ran by this a really nice Japanese American guy by the name Gary. If any of you happen to be in the area, be sure to check it out.

And yes, it is a very different game. I tried it once a couple of years ago and I think I got 5.

I think I'll prefer Sporting Clay. I'm an engineer and I like to figure solutions to problems, including how to hit a certain target. Sporting clay let me pick a station and practice till I figure it out on my own, which is half the fun for me.

Don't spend too much time/energy trying to figure out how to hit a specific target at a certain station. It will change!

I disagree. Every target you hit is another one in the bank.

Thanks for the reminder BigBear .... its the only Bay Area range I have never been to

I think its time to visit Sunnyvale R&G and give the 5 Stand an afternoon's worth this Sat....half the drive to Coyote Valley SC and I can practice my mag dumps.

Anyone want to join me this Sat?
