    Remington 887 Issue... Thoughts?

I have spent two days doing some searching but really couldnt find much of an answer... Maybe my Calguns friends can help me out.

A backup to my 870 is my 887. Loads fine, shoots great... but unloading is a pain. I depress the shell release latch on the side and the shell is released but gets caught on the carrier dog follower. It just catches the lip. So to unload i have to chamber the round and use action release to remove it. Pain in the butt.

    Ideas to fix???

tactical... same one you just tossed in. Im sure you have done some reading maybe even some videos. Mine shoots great but apparently they do have some issues. Seems each person finds something else. I like it... but dont love it. I prefer my 870 overall.

You mean it is getting caught on the carrier. The carrier dog follower is up in the receiver on the trigger plate assembly but may very well be your problem. If the carrier is not dropping back down you need to check the carrier dog as it may be chipped and also check the carrier dog follower spring. I don't know enough about this model to take any further guesses.

The carrier is dropping down fine. It's just that "ramp" is catching the shell lip as if the shell is supposed to smoothly move over the ramp it gets caught. It's not best picture but you can see it just catches it on the ensue preventing it from manually being removed

Not sure how the shell latches work on one of those but the same issue on an 870 can be as simply as some mess behind the shell latch. Clean behind them by taking a can of Parts and Break Cleaner from any Auto parts store, get the non flammable kind. Put the small straw in the spray nozzle hole and blow out behind the shell latches. The stuff has a high evaporation rate and will dry fast. The last person I suggested this to blew a small piece of cleaning patch out from behind the feed latch and his issue was resolved. Sorry I can't be of more help but just don't know enough about this model.

Sounds like a good taking apart is in order for the weekend... thanks. Would be awesome if that did the trick.

I can't offer any advice for your problem, but I do wonder why you'd want to have a backup with no shells in it? Mine only gets unloaded by pressing the trigger. 😚

So I just got my 887 and not IED some issues with loading and unloading. Looks like if the forend is pulled back a bit that caused the problem. Make sure your forend is pushed forward

I spent alot of time with it and even went shooting this weekend. Pretty much just an awkward design. For mine just needs to be in a perfect position to remove. Still a pain but it shoots like a gem so thats the big one. Have fun with it and shoot the hell out of it.
