    Cz redhead??

Looking to buy an o/u for my wife. She is new to guns but for reason found trap/skeet enjoyable and wants an O/U.. She likes the Citori but not sure if she is in for a long haul...seems like CZ redhead maybe a cheaper alternative and based on little research I've done, the recent version is reviewed somewhat favorably??

looking for advice from more experienced shooters. Is Citori significantly better and worth the extra $$??

    Yes and no...
It all depends on useage and expectations. I bought a CZ as a starter gun, knowing if I liked the clay sports I'd need something better for the long run. If the goal is nothing more than casual shooting the Redhead will do just fine. If the goal is more serious target shooting, the Citori is well worth the extra money.

Find a used Citori with screw-in chokes.

If you get a decent deal and it turns out she drops the sport, you'll recoup all/most your $'s.

Or buy a new CZ an watch it depreciate on the way out the door.

Depreciation happens on almost all new item purchases, so this should not be unexpected. The problem is actually finding a good deal on a used Citori. When I was looking, there were several Citoris on the market, none were what I would call a good deal. Are they out there, yes, but it may take many, many months to find one. I'm currently shooting a Citori, but it took nearly a year to find what I saw as a good deal on one. In the mean time I shot a CZ, it worked flawlessly. When I sold it, I did take a hit on it, about $300, or 30% of the original cost. Not to bad of a hit after two years, and not much different than the hit on a new Browning...

          ><

Before you buy, for your wife's comfort and enjoyment, some things you should understand, read and do before you or her buy.

Understand that a good fitting SG will make all the difference in the world as far as shooting comfort, felt recoil, and putting shots on target.

          Some reading -- http://www.shotgunworld.com/bbs/view...p?f=9&t=286474

Things to do--- Have her shoot different shotguns, rent, barrow, ask fellow shooters. Watch Youtube vids on gun fit and stance

Get some training from a shooting instructor and focus on gun fit

And one of the places you can get great shooting for very little money instruction is here and try different guns: http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s....php?t=1081488

Well we did go to several stores and she handled many models...she liked the Citori the best. She was ok with the CZ. I should stop being a cheap skate and buy the Citori and deal with it if she quits. I've done worse on other investments. Thank you all.

Check out the Browning Crossover Target. One of the better values in quality O/U's imho with some target features.

What makes Citoris so superior to other O/U's? Do less expensive (budget) sticks fall apart with real use?

Get the Citori. If your wife quits, your kids can use it.

Better quality parts, better quality materials, better quality workmanship.

However, if all you're going to shoot is a round or two every so often, really any shotgun will hold up to that.

When real use can reach 5 and 6 figures...in a word, yes.

I'd say there are other sticks on par and a bit less, but nothing I'd really call budget. Maybe an SKB, Miroku, etc.

The ONE CZ I picked up took nearly 2 people to open the action. There's tight and there's rediculous. That this unit made it to a dealer's rack curtailed any further interest.

Treat your wife like the queen she is. Call Pacific Sporting Arms and set up an appointment.
This will pay dividends far greater than money. She's worth the investment.

Those are some good alternates to a Citori that are on the used market but like ysr-racer said, the Citori overall is built better.

The cost of a quality O/U can be tough to swallow but its worth if she gets into the sport. You don't want to have to try to sell a CZ to buy her a better gun later down the road.

I'd say find one that fits her first, followed by reliability then price. I'd honestly consider saving and moving the budget to $1500; a lot of good used guns at that price point.

Buy the cz, if in the future you want to upgrade, but something else.

Well the Miroku IS a Citori for all intents and purposes. Often with nicer wood (grade for grade).

Personally I find the 12g model a bit too blocky but I've shot them well and personally know several well into the 6 figure round count.

My personal target guns are Beretta 682's (a Sporting and a Trap, both in Greystone finish) Seems like the price of thoses went up when Beretta introducd the 692.
