Rem 11-87 vs 1100 help

I own a rem 1100 in 20g, blued, wood. I purchased my stepmom an 11-87 youth. synthetic, 20g and installed a trap dude recoil pad on it for her. I also got her a 26in barrel for it. Apparentley, it kicks her harder than my 1100. Will swapping out the synthetic stock and forend with wood help reduce the recoil? Why does it kick her harder than my 1100? Any cures other than a new shotgun? It's only for trap/skeet use.

They are the same basic gun, shooting the same shells there shoud be no difference in recoil. it could be the syn. stock is lighter in weight

Sounds like mom is a bit recoil sensitive. That youth gun is probably on the light side, which is why she's feeling it so much. Swapping out the furniture for heavier stuff may help a little, but probably not that much. You could add an extra thick recoil pad. Not sure if it would fit a youth gun, and doubt mom will be too into the tactical look, but Knoxx makes a very nice recoil absorbing stock that nearly elimates it (from what I've read). There are probably lots of other aftermarket stocks that absorb much of the recoil, but finding one to fit may be difficult. They also make trap/skeet shirts that has pads in the shoulder area that she could wear when shooting. She could wear an extra heavy jacket. Or you could sell it and get her something that she is comfortable with. Just some ideas.

The lighter the gun the more felt kick. Wood adds weight.

Fit is also important...put the two side by side....is the stock longer? thicker? lower? Does she have to adjust her cheek when she raises the 11-87? Have her raise the gun with her eyes closed and then open them and see if she has to adjust her cheek or the gun.

The gas system on the mag tube is different between the two guns. The 11-87 has a band that is supposed to expand for higher presure loads. It could be too tight and not venting enough gas making for a harsher recoil.

Yes weight has something to do with it along with how the guns fit. Place the guns on top of each other and see if the drop in the stock is the same.

That's about as far as I can take you, somebody else will have a better idea I'm sure.
