    Stoeger double defence

I have a stoeger double defence SXS 12 gauge that fires both barrels the same time. It only started that lately and only on every second reload. Any idea what may cause this. Thanks

Its kind of awesome actually, I wonder if they can make it into a feature that lets you shoot both barrels simultaneously with a switch.

      It's made by Stoeger...

I have a Stoeger Coach Gun. It does that if you pull both triggers at the same time

Stoeger SXS guns are known to have fairly soft firing pins which can deform. It sounds like you have had this gun for a while, and it has not done this in the past? I ask this because many issues regarding Stoeger (single trigger) coach guns double firing relates to the operator not managing the recoil (pretty stout on these guns), and causing a fan fire - not really a double fire but shooting the second barrel in quick succession just after the first one due to the recoil forces. You can always verify whether this is the case or not by firing 10-20 rounds or light recoiling ammo, and ensuring that you hold the gun tight to your shoulder with each round. If it doesn't seem to "double" with light loads, you may have found the issue.

If you have made certain that the "double fires" are not due to lack of recoil management, try these 2 things in order:

            1) Pull off the stock and make sure that all internals are first cleaned off well, and then are properly lubricated. Could be a sticky firing pin?
            2) Buy some harder SS firing pins and the appropriate spanner wrench and change out the firing pins. If one of the softer Stoeger firing pins has become deformed from shooting, it could be hanging up and contacting the second round during recoil, resulting in the doubling. I haven't researched these replacement parts extensively, but Long Hunter's prices seem adequately reasonable: $25 for the pair of hardened firing pins and $15 for the little spanner wrench (plus shipping). Look here:

We use a single trigger 12 ga Stoeger coach gun in SASS shooting and I'm assuming that its internals are the same as those in the Double Defense. But that is only an assumption on my part, so you would need to do any verification on your own. We have lots of rounds through that little Stoeger, and have not yet had any issues with it at all. But then again, in competition we only use light Winchester AA Low Recoil/Low Noise rounds, so they do not impact the gun as hard as shooting, for example, lots of 00 Buckshot rounds. Don't know what you shoot, but I'm assuming that with a "Double Defense" you are practicing with home defense type ammo, and not extra-light target loads.

            Hope this helps.

Thanks everyone. I have the gun about 2 years and it has not seen much use. If I had to guess, less than a box of shells fired through it. I will give it a good cleaning to see if that fixes it. Thanks again.
