    Rifled slug barrel

Gotta new Benelli Supernova 12ga in jail...has the 28" field barrel and a short rifled slug barrel. Not a lot of slug guns in CA...can ya run anything else down this barrel or does traditional shot damage it and fly goofy?
Human beings only have two ways to deal with one another: reason and force. Force has no place as a valid method of social interaction, and the only thing that removes force from the menu is the personal firearm, as paradoxical as it may sound to some.

The U.S. city with the most restrictive gun laws in the nation, Washington, D.C., has the highest murder rate at 24 per 100,000.
The state with the most unrestrictive gun regulations, Vermont, has the lowest murder rate at 0.48 per 100,000.

When you run a birdshot or buckshot through the rifled slug barrel, what's going to happen is that the rifling will spin the wad/cup and cause the shots to spray all over the place. Not a very good thing to do.

It won't damage the barrel though. I would just keep the 28" field barrel on and use the rifled barrel only for shooting sabot slugs.

It spreads the shot a lot quicker which makes it better for short range defensive use. Instead of a 3-6" shot spread down the hallway, you get 6-10" spreads.

Interesting HD perspective. Does it damage the rifling at all?

I think someone in this thread before said it doesn't hurt the barrel...

so are you using this for HD with the short barrel?

Not speaking from experience, but I don't expect lead shot will damage the much stronger steel barrel. Steel shot might be a different story? I'm guessing that lead will build-up in the rifling grooves too, making cleaning a pain.

                    Hi Bruce,
What did you do with your rifled barrel?
                    Is it cantilevered?

I had a friend ask me, "O_P, could you shoot buckshot through a rifled barrel and a cylinder bore barrel and post the differences on your website?" Well, as is sometimes the case, I do not presently own a shotgun with both a cylinder bore barrel and a rifled slug barrel. But I started looking...
