Mossberg 930 jm pro forend retainer

So yesterday i was shooting my jm pro out in the rain of west end and i was having issues with cycling of pretty much everything. I have never had an issue with the shotgun before. It had eaten everything. As the day progressed it got better but wasnt 100%. When i got home a plastic piece fell out of the forend. Turns out the forend retainer, which is a piece of cheap plastic was broken.

Question is. Would this thing cause any issues with cycling and has anyone replaced this thing with a more substantial piece like this

    And what about this thing

Ive never shot the gun in anything but hot weather. Would the cold wet rainy weather effect the cycling of typical cheap loads like gun club and federal bulk?
This is my first semi auto so i need some help here.
Update; mossberg is sending me 2 new ones so they must break, this is my second work with mossberg CS. The original front sight FO fell out and they sent me two new sights which i didnt use and replaced with aftermarket parts. CS hasbeen good but little things keep breaking
    Thanks

Damn! I'd like to know about this also, as I'm looking into a 930 myself.

i have had my 930 jam when it got wet. i think it has to do with the long metal sleeve. once it gets water all under it i tends to get slugish. just like it you put water under a pane of glass and sandwhich together. it happened to me while i was running oil. switched to grease. and also cut a series of lines into the cylinder so there is less suction. have been 100% since.

I have the OR3GUN spacer tube, and forearm retainer on my JM.
The tube is relieved in the middle, so there is less surface area contacting the magazine tube. And is supposed to help with cycling in wet conditions.
The competition version is lighter than the factory piece, which is the reason I use it. I made a different pusher assembly because I didn't like the plastic factory part. So I needed to get the gas system back proper weight to cycle the way it should.

Both the tube & forearm retainer just install in place of the factory parts. Simple to do.

Thats a pretty trick deal you made there. So did you have issues with cycling before you put in the new pusher assembly?

When it was new, I was having some cycling issues. But I attribute that mostly to not cleaning the gas system thoroughly. I now run it totally dry.
Plus I had some light strike issues as well, but installing a Wolff 10/22 extra power hammer spring in place of the stock hammer spring cured that.
With the OR3GUN spacer tube, and the pusher assembly I made, along with a lighter recoil spring plunger, that I also made, my reciprocating parts are actually 2grams lighter than what came from Mossberg.
So far, no issues running Federal Target Loads, or 00 buck. Nor the slug loads I make out of the cheap target shells. Which I open up, melt the shot down and re-cast as 1oz slugs, and then stuff back into the hulls and re-crimp.

But back to you original question.
Yes, if that piece of plastic that broke off got between the pusher assembly and the retainer, it would cause cycling issues. The pusher wouldn't be able to fully cycle the bolt.

So went out today and put 125 rounds of bird and a dozen buck and had no issues with the broken forend retainer in place. Its amazing a company like mossberg that is trying to get into comp shotguns would put such crappy parts on their gun. I know they are going for a price point but really. I think i am going to buy the metal piece and hopefully have no more issues.
