Browning BT-99

I'm looking to try out the Browning BT-99 series of shotguns; regular sized, micro and micro midas version. Both wife and I need a 2nd shotgun and I've been looking at these.

I tried Coyote Valley today but unfortunately they don't have them.

I also checked the Pacific Sporting Arms web site and it looks like they have a couple of full sized ones but with barrels that are too long for me.

Does anyone know who carries a nice selection of BT-99? I don't mind traveling to check them out. I don't mind taking a flight out to check them out. I was thinking of perhaps going to the Grand American and hope Browning will have these for testing but if there's someone closer and have these now, I can check them out without having to wait till Aug.

Not uncommon to find them in use at the trap range. Nobody in your trap league has BT's?

That's the odd thing, I've been looking for someone who shoots one at Metcalf but so far no luck. Seems like most have more expensive toys, it is actually easier if I wanted to try a Perazzi or something like a Beretta 682 Gold.

What length are you looking for? Realize that a BT (or and breech loader) is going to be shorter (3" or so) than your auto for a given barrel length.


Used ones in great shape are almost cheap enough to buy on a hunch vs. traveling the countryside.

You could try Oaktree Gun Club in Newhall. They always have a good selection of trap guns available.

You might be hard pressed to find BT99's with 30" and less. Dedicated trap guns, particularly single barrels are going to be bare minimum 30" and typically 32" or 34".

I suppose the good news, if absolutely must have "short" barrels is a used fixed choke is cheaper and it can be cut and threaded for chokes somewhat reasonably.

Remember though, the overall length of a BT99 with 32" barrel will approximate the overall length of your auto with a 29".

I believe Harry (one of the regulars on Field #1 - Trap) shoots a BT99.

If you want to travel, try Tom Forbes at Capitol city gun club in Carson city, Nevada. He has lots of inventory, new and used.
