    Advice on my old citori

I have and regularly shoot a 1976 browning citori pre type 1 field grade. The last time i was out shooting skeet with it, i could see the top lever flicking to the right and the barrel felt like it was trying to pop open. This seems like a classic worn locking bolt/barrel lug and tired/weakened top lever spring. The problem is there are virtually no parts available for these early model citoris. My dad bought this gun brand new and has always shot flawlessly for him and i. I have been shooting it for skeet for the last several years. Since this is the gun i shoot 22- 24 in skeet with ( and several 25's) i would like to fix it. Any advice? Is there a stash of locking bolts some where i could buy, or can a gunsmith build up my old one and refit it to my barrel lugs. TIA.

Not a problem from what I understand. Did you call Browning?

If it's unlocking, send it to Art's or Midwest. It needs springs too.

russ69, i called browning a few weeks ago. They sold off all their inventory for these year citoris years ago to midwest gun works and western gun parts in canada. I called these two places and they have virtually no parts left.

yss_racer, i would like to support a local gunsmith in southern california if possible or if even one exists , to tighten or rebuild the action of an over under. Can you recommend one? But if the consensus is to send to Arts or midwest then i'll go that route.

Rebuilding a Browning is specialized work. Local guys can probably do it, but Art's and Midwest are the experts.

Your call, but I'm a Browning guy and that's who I'd send it to.

I like to go local where I can as well. For something like this, I'd be inclined to use the experts.
RIP Louis Awerbuck. I miss you and your training.

Call Bob Day at AmeriChoke in Pico Rivera.
Call Joe Comunas at TrueZero in Orange County. I think he shares space in the building With Schumacher's Waterfowl Supply. I think Joe has been shooting one of those old Citoris forever.

I agree that Art's and MWG are probably your best resource for your repairs. As I understand it, Art's is second to none where Browning is concerned.

Great discussion. I have an older Citori I've been looking to send in for some TLC as well.
