Old SXS shotguns

I see some old shotguns on GB that are pretty cheap (less expensive) I would like to use em for wall hangers. I would also like to be able to slap two shells in it and blast away. Will these guns handle todays modern shotguns shells, high base buck shot stuff?

I think you'd really be taking a gamble either way if you are looking to shoot any of those. Worst case is you get it, take it to a gunsmith for inspection and are told it's not safe to shoot and it's a wall hanger. Possible you could use some light black powder loads. As far as I'm aware though from that time period it's very hard to tell the quality of steel without seeing it in person.

If you ever find one with a Damascus barrel that is a no go.
