Mossberg 590 With Surefire Forend Question

OK I recently purchased a Surefire 623FA Forearm for my Mossberg 590 and have noticed that on Surefire's website it has a note: ""Note: For shotguns equipped with a bayonet lug, the lug must be removed to mount the Shotgun WeaponLight. ""

So my shotgun of course has the bayonet lug but it appears to be part of the barrel itself and I really do not want to remove it as it also appears to hold the vent shroud on the barrel. Can anyone tell me if this is actually needed in order to use this forearm?

Yes it is, you will not be able to pump the shotgun as the light will hit the bayonet lug. My friend tried this with his 590 and ended up selling the light to for my moss 500.

Well that's just great. Then why on earth do they sell it for the 590 knowing the 590 comes with a bayonet lug and the lug is permanently attached to the barrel.. This make absolutely no sense at all to me.

Does anyone know if this fore end will fit a Mossberg 500 in 20 gauge?

Because not all 590 variants come with a bayonet lug. Mariners don't.

Hello there, I have the same setup on one of my 590's , simply replaced the bezel with a shorter shock isolated one off a P6 combat light. Works just fine.

Well, on Surefire's website its specifically states that it will not fit the 590 without cutting off the bayonet lug. Some people purchase the 18 1/2" version of the 590 that does NOT have a bayonet lug or some people do not see a need for a bayonet, so they will chop it off. It makes sense.

You might want to check the newer (and more expensive) LED versions of the light. They do not say it will not fit the 590, so I would assume it would fit. I'd contact Surefire to be certain. I just rechecked Surefire's website, they have added the warning since the last time I checked.

IIRC, the bezel is the problem. With the incandescent version, you need to have the shock isolated bezel (or you will keep blowing bulbs) which measures about 1.358" OD. The regular bezel(which you should be able to use if you run a LED) is about 1.243" OD. I'd try finding a metal bezel to borrow and see if when mounted it interferes with the lug.

Remember, you cannot use both a bayonet and the integrated Surefire forend (that's probably why people chop off the lug).

I don't know if the light will fit on a 500C.

Yes sir, had a P6 combat light, the one with the rubber orings for Rogers technique, used the bezel from that with a shock isolated lamp assy. Have use this particular 590 in 3 combat shotgun courses and never had any issues with it not going into battery. Hope that helps.

there is also an elbow adapter that i mounted on mine that can swing the light to either side or bottom. if i remember right it was the model a17. the only other thing is that you also need another bezel to work with it.
