At that price, it is going to be competing with very good semi-autos like Benelli M2 and Beretta 1301.

It will never gain traction at that price. I've had an old '37, it's fun to slam fire a bit. But used it as trading stock for another toy. I don't miss it.

A brand new Mossberg 590 milspec riot gun w/ heat shield and bayo lug is ~$400.



This new Ithaca is neat, but would appear to be a novelty item with a limited audience. Would a hardcore collector want one?

I'm not what you would call a 'hard core' collector but I like shotguns, specifically American shotguns, and in pumps I specifically like Ithaca 37s and Remington 870s and specifically dislike Mossbergs.

That being said, if I were looking for a shotgun with a heat shield and a bayonet lug I'd rather spend $1200 bucks on the Ithaca than on a Mossberg (or just slap a heat shield and bayonet lug on an 870). It's a novelty item to be sure, I'm pretty certain Ithaca is not looking to get back into the 'real deal' combat shotgun market, but it's a neat novelty item.

I'd rather have an original M97, M12, or M37 but those will run nearly double the cost of this gun. I would go so far as to say this isn't really a reproduction (something I'm generally not interested in) but is instead a reintroduction. It's not unlike buying a Colt Single Action Army. The real deal Colt Single Action Armys are available brand new and cost 3 or 4x more than a Glock, but people buy them anyway.

I guess that's a long winded way to say "Yes, I think people will be interested in them. No, I don't think people will be buying them specifically as 'user' shotguns".

If anyone is interested I have an original commercial 37 Trench gun circa 1960's in 95+ % that I may sell. There is one on Gunbroker right now, but it is a fake. The original commercials have a 1903-A3 style rear sling loop inletted into the stock, not an Uncle Mikes stud, and the handguard on the GB one is phony. Also, most of the commercials had factory impressed checkering at the pistol grip.
