Hi, I just recently bought a used Remington 1100. It's a magnum receiver with a 2 3/4" barrel. As far as I am aware, the two should work fine together as long as I don't run magnum loads (duh).
However, when the barrel is fully seated, the trigger will not fire. Only when I loosen the forend cap and pull the barrel out slightly, does it work. It seems like bolt cannot be put into battery if the barrel is fully seated.
That introduces another problem I had today while attempting to test fire it at the range. The firing pin did not seem to make even a mark in the primer. My hypothesis for this is since the barrel is not fully seated, there may be too big of a gap between firing pin and shell. Theoretically, if I can find the right amount of space between barrel and receiver, before the bolt is pushed out of battery, it should work. Hopefully it's not anything wrong with headspace.
Any tips on how I should proceed? I would prefer to not buy a completely new barrel.
I'll probably visit a LGS and see what they think in the near future. I've tinkered with it a couple hours today and nothing's really shored up yet.
