    My X-Mas Install

The wife got me a Santa Cruz locking shotgun rack for x-mas (they make the ones for police cars). I wanted a way to keep the 12G in the closet (above the door - making it harder to see) with easy and safe access.

Its basically a big handcuff and buttstock holder. The handcuff portion is adjustable and mine is positioned in between the receiver and forend. That way, I can keep the magazine loaded, but the chamber empty - making it impossible to rack and fire while locked up. Its pretty cool.

The whole kit cost about $140.

      Nice.

Did it come with the L Bracket you used to mount it to the wall?

This could be a good solution for me to put a couple of the shotguns outside of the overflowing safe.

Had to make a trip to the hardware store for the L Bracket - pretty simple however.

Very nice. This is a great idea. Looks like you have the puch button activation leading somewhere... We don't need to know where, but nice touch.
Were you able to find the wall studs to mount it to? This particular location in the closet is the easiest place for construction workers to skimp on studs/ quality. Sometimes finding a stud to hit with the mounting hardware is a PITA.

The nice thing about the adjustable rail is that it was easy to set it up so all mounts are in studs. It very secure. Also, it comes with aircraft locknuts, so disassembly with the gun mounted is next to impossible.

I looked into those, but I didn't see a way to unlock it other than the key (their website doesn't say anything about a remote button), and I really didn't want to be fumbling for a key when I NEED the shotgun. Do they normally come with a remote unlocking button?

Most mounts, unless the VERY early ones, come with a remote switch device with a set or programable delay. Remember, these are intended and designed primarily for mounting long guns in patrol cars. Remote switches are hidden inside the car for quick access. Be aware, some only require a handcuff key to access though...

For more options, makers, etc... you can check out a LE equipment distributor online like galls that supplies a variety of makes, models, etc... that fit a variety of guns. The nice thing about the Santa Cruz is that the latch is adjustable in size to acomidate a variety of weapons.
