    Beretta A400 Xcel (left handed)

I'm considering this shotgun for shooting clays. Anyone have one? Interested in hearing opinions as well as possible alternatives to look at. I know it's not exactly cheap but the recoil dampening, super fast cycling and left side ejection sounds really good to me. Always hate shells (almost) flying in my face.

Is that the one with the blue receiver? If so, it's the most used semi auto gun for sporting clays these days.

It is, yes. From what I read everywhere it seems to be the gun to get. I was curious to see if everyone agrees

Me, no. Buy an A300 for less than half the price, and use the money to practice, or take lessons.

If you make it down to Orange County, you're welcome to shoot mine.

I thought they only produced the A400 Xplor Action in a full left hand configuration so far?

I've got a 30" Xcel sporter with KO, with the shims set up for a tiny bit of cast-on that you can try in addition to Brad's cheapy A300 wannabe...I guarantee two billion more hits with a blue receiver.

If you're looking for lh eject gas models:

          Fabarm XLR5 FR
          XLR5 LR
          XLR5 (adjustable rib, comb)

They also just introduced their L4S Initial Hunter in left hand, although it's meant more as a field gun. However, it is cheaper than their XLR.

Not sure if you like the intertia guns, or would be ok with 'field models' but these come in lefty options:

          Benelli M2
          Benelli Montefeltro
          Franchi Affinity

I've heard left handed shooters spent too much time in the high school shower room

As mentioned go A300 or Montefeltro. No need for a 3.5" gun on the clay field. It is awesome looking though.

The Xcel is a 3" gun, it's the blue one with all the fancy gizmos like extended chokes, adjustable forend weights, kick-off system, extended bolt release etc. it is the "premier" sporting semi from beretta.

You're thinking of the A400 extreme, that's the 3.5" hunting gun

Op, as mentioned check out the a300 variants as it's much more affordable and uses the same basic gas operating system, or my favorite is the a400 xplor action, available with the kick-off that I like a lot, a few hundred cheaper than the Xcel, and personally I like the bronze reciever color more than the blue.

As men, we really should need a kick-off system on a gas gun. I shoot a Browning 525 O/U with 1oz going 1300fps, and it's soft.

If a gas gun is beating you up, it either doesn't fit you right, or you're not holding it right.

I shoot a 686 sp1 all day with 1.25oz birdshot, but it was still fun to try an Xcel with kickoff at the sports fair, it's like busting clays with the recoil of a 5.56

I like the bronze a lot better as well in terms of looks. So you're saying this one might be just as good for clays with the benefits of being cheaper, better looks and better for occasional hunting as well?

Basically the exact same gun in a different color, either will perform the same for clays or hunting. If you decide you want extended chokes or you really need a weighted forend cap or larger bolt release, there's parts available from beretta, briley, and chokes from everybody but I wouldn't consider those essential in any way, or worth the extra $400-600 for the excel imo

Thanks for the clarification Cuda . I thought it was a 3.5" gun. No experience with one other than holding one in the store. Felt nice and light, natural point of aim was great. Again, sorry for the FUD, I posted earlier.
