Beretta 686 black Onyx

Does anyone know when the original Beretta 686 black Onyx were produced?

There is one on consignment and I wanted to get some insight.

Also, what choke tubes does it take?

I think they were still producing the original Black Onyx into the mid-late 90's. Somewhere I have an old Beretta catalog that still showed them, and I think I got the catalog around '96-ish. The originals had the matte finish shown in your pic and steel grip gap on the PG. I own three of them in 12 and 20, including the Waterfowler with 3.5" chambers. Best looking 686 they ever built. The matte finish is surprisingly durable, and the grip cap sets it off nicely. Don't worry about when they were made, just buy that one and think about it later, especially it=f it's a 20 with 28" barrels. If you don't buy it, please PM the location because I have a friend who is looking for one.

It's a 12 gauge with a 30" barrel. I "pulled the trigger" and put it in jail today. My 10 days ends next Saturday, Valentines Eve.
