Where to get a Mossberg 930 SPX

Looking to get my first semi-auto shotgun, and this is what I want:

Every once in a while (like twice a year) they go on sale here at a LGS for $650 or so.

Is there anywhere else that sells them for a good price?

Have you held the non-pistol grip model? I thought I wanted the pistol grip also, but the regular stock is much better in function due to Mossbergs safety placement.

I bought mine from Grabagun a few years back, it was the cheaper price at that time.

Also check out the Beretta 1301 Tactical, gas-operated semiauto.....

Almost bought the 930 SPX, but my friend's was finicky on ammo. I just jailed a 1301 today, it gets great reviews and seems to shoot everything.

Thanks, but I'm pretty set on the 930. I have heard about some people having issues like you describe, but from what I understand, if you take the new gun down to parade rest, clean and lube it, and put it back together, you will have zero issues. The gun is sound, it's the assembly that is less than perfect.

To me, it's worth not having to pay the extra $500 to just clean it, plus learning how to strip and reassemble it is something I feel I should learn anyway.

I've tried both. What is it that you didn't like about the pistol grip - was it just the safety placement?

For me the angle of my rear hand felt more natural when moving the gun around. I was lucky enough to shoot both versions before I bought one. It is very much a personal preference, good luck. My SPX ran flawlessly the first 500 rounds then I had a few issues. I have found that you must keep the gas piston free of carbon build up. The first few cleanings I left the piston rings in place per the supplied manual. After a while carbon built up beneath the rings causing them to bind. Search YouTube for Jerry Miculek's 930 service video. Also buy a quality recoil spring the factory ones seem to loose tension rather quick.

Only problem I had with my 930 SPX was when I put a side saddle on that replaced the trigger group pins with Chicago screws. Had ejection problems. Went to using shotgun cards with Velcro which makes more sense anyways.

Clean it, run it hard to break in, keep an eye on the Mossberg owners forum if you do have any issues and maintenance tips.

I went with the regular stock initially. LOP was just a little long for me after trying it out a few times.

Replaced it with this, a little pricy, but what good is a gun if you don't enjoy using it?

Anyway LOP is much shorter now and it feels good. Recoil pad is nice.
