Fastest way I've found is to just lay a trap down first. I have seen a style of wire ball roller on a stick that you roll over the shells and it's supposed to trap them inside but I have my doubts.

Mk II fingers work best.
They have that wire ball at the range I go to and it kind of works but it's a pain to get the casings out______________________________

Most just use a Magnetic nail sweep as most shell are steel base. If your using AA or other reloadable shells, the bird cage roller works.
You can also apply methods so the shells never hit the ground if applicableLast edited by Thefeeder; 01-24-2016, 10:03 AM.Comment

What are you shooting? Often you can retain the hulls as they come out of the gun. This is problematic if you are shooting doubles with anything other than break action shotgun.Comment

This is an interesting topic. When I first started shooting clays you have a puller and range staff that would clean up the empties. Other than reloaders, it was very common to let the hulls fly as long as they didn't hit your fellow shooters. The gun club would pick up the hulls.
Clubs have been reducing their service and cost cutting are are pushing for their shooters to pick up or retain their hulls. Many don't even provide a puller or scorekeeper any longer. They are trying to guilt their shooters into range clean up (right or wrong).
I find many competitors will manage their own hulls during practice these days but still let them fly when shooting competition and expect the range to clean up after them.Last edited by AAShooter; 01-24-2016, 12:12 PM.Comment
