Old Paper Shell

I fired an old paper shell (last year) in a semi-auto, and upon extraction, the base of the brass split almost all the way around the circumference and pulled out the basewad and jammed the gun. How's that for a run on sentence?

Shot the rest of the shells in a O/U and had no problems.

That can happen.... I am glad you took the time to post the pictures....

I recall the old paper wads my father had in the garage.... technology has advanced but for some reason.... I fear that bio degradeable wads might make a come back

I've never seen a case split at the rim like that but, it makes sense that there could be a week spot there. I bet it was just a flaw in that one case. BTW, while these are old shells, for those who don't know, they do still make new paper hulls and some people prefer them to plastic ones.
