Chiappa Triple Threat - stock length?

I am toying with the idea of buying a Chiappa Triple Threat (three barrel) shotgun. (18.5 inch barrels)

There is a feature that allows about 1/2 of the stock to be removed, making it fairly short to carry and point. Are there any legal issues with doing this in CA, either for general use or hunting?

General use, no. Never heard of any DFG(dfw, or whatever the hell they're calling themselves now) regulations about it for hunting either.

You might have a hard time explaining why you are hunting with a pistol gripped 3 barreled shotgun when the warden is laughing at you, but it doesn't seem to be illegal from what I can tell.

If the overall length is less than 26", then it would be considered a SBS. [PC 17180(b)]

One of the areas that I am looking at hunting for boar is "shotgun slugs only", does not allow carrying a "backup or side arm". Pretty crazy situation for a dangerous animal hunt, so the idea is to minimize personal risk.

a) Very low risk that the gun will fire when the trigger is pulled. (similar to double rifle concept for "real" big game).

b) Quick to point and easy to carry, so short as legally feasible.

c) 3 rounds is the max legal in the shotgun anyway, so might as well go for three barrels vs two.

In this strange world of hunting in CA, it is a matter or minimizing personal risk vs risk the reality of coming home empty handed.

Only in a place like CA would a wild boar have the same hunting classification and rules as deer.

Couple ideas: you could buy an remington 1187 or mossberg 930 for 1/3 the price and have three quick shots; also could buy an AR-10 or M1A for 1500 and be in hog killing business.

It's just under 28" if you're talking about the 18.5" barreled model with the stock removed.
