    Which Remington did you have and what Benelli did you buy?
    Remington 870 Express
    Benelli Supernova Tactical

    The Benelli was $500. The Remington was about $325. More aftermarket options for the Remington. The Benelli has functioned flawlessly.

      Awesome, how do you like it? Pros/cons?
      Benelli makes a beautiful shotgun, I love my m2, fit/finish is incredible.

        This is a known issue. My gun will cycle reliably only with high brass turkey rounds. Time to unload it for a mossberg or any one of the 870 clones that actually work. Buddy has the same gun, same problem. staying away from anything Remington for the foreseeable future.

          The problem is you.

          Likely, but not necessarily. I have the 870 Express Tac and experienced the same issues as OP. Shot my buddy's 870 Express, no issues at all. I had a local gun smith look at it. He told me to stop by in a week. One week later the problem was resolved.
          Not a big shotgun person myself, but enjoy shooting clays every once in a blue moon. I may have to get the 870 out and see how she's performing.

            Yes, the Benelli fit and finish is excellent. It looks and feels like a quality product. Additionally, the action is very smooth. I like the pistol grip but length of pull for the buttstock is way too long for my wife and I would even prefer it to be shorter for me. I like the ghost ring sights for range /cans practice. I would like for it to have a six/seven shot magazine tube instead of the four shot it comes with. I know I can replace it, but they are pricey and not really necessary. Everyone who has shot mine really likes it.

            My buddy has an M4 and it is beyond amazing.

              One might think that Remington would resolve this issue.

              A few years back, when people were reporting these problems, some Remington fanboys were disbelievers and would tell others to rack it like a man etc. I have seen numerous threads over the last couple of years with scores of people reporting the same issue.

                Geez, Remington used to be the standard in reliability. I'm sure glad I bought my 870 sixteen years ago.

                I suspect Remington may be outsourcing manufacture of many of their products.

                  And there are just as many issues with all shotguns and the ammo in question. The reason that it seems more with the Remington 870 is simply because it is the number one selling pump shotgun and out sells all the others combined. The issue is more the ammo and the user then the gun.

                  The issue is well established to be the ammo and affecting all models of shotguns. One would realize this is the did the research.

                  If you're going to a gun fight, take a shotgun. If you can't take a shotgun, don't go.

                    Again, I don't know how this could be the case considering I was having the same exact issue prior to handing my 870 over to a gun smith. Unless the gun smith contacted federal (the shells I used before and after he received my shotgun) and told them to stop cheaping out on the 12g, I am positive there was an issue with the gun itself.

                    Before gun smith: issue happened once every 5 shells using federal 12g.
                    After gun smith: issue hasn't happened in over 200 shells, using federal 12g.

                      I have a 30 year old Wingmaster that I never had any problems with, until I shot the Winchester Universal shells sold as a 4 pack at Walmart.
                      These shells were difficult to eject.
                      I don't use those shells anymore and haven't had a problem since I quit using them.

                        Same user. Same box of shells.
                        Remington= consistent jamming.
                        Benelli= no issues.

                        Remington certainly sells the most, so we certainly hear more about them. However, I never hear anything negative about the older Remington models.

                        Regardless of personal feelings towards a company or particular product, there are many dissatisfied Remington customers over the last few years.

                          .
                          Again, in an attempt at some perspective, I've had zero ammunition issues and zero function issues with the two 1980-made Wingmasters that I have acquired. Love these pump guns.

                          In spite of their reliability, I've paid attention to J.D. Maguire at AI&P (aippi) and have installed Flextab conversion kits in both shotguns. Now I'm no gunfighter but that doesn't mean I can't still train. These two Wingmasters are two pumps I would absolutely depend on in a deadly force encounter, without question.
