I have a Benelli M1 Super 90 with a combat barrel...looking to put a hunting barrel on in with interchangeable chokes...looks like only M2 barrels are available...my question is do I need an M2 forend or will my M1 forend work????

Call Benelli directly, I find that I can get answers fairly easily that way.

I have put a benelli m2 barrel on a m1 with out any issues. The barrel fits the receiver just fine, however the m2 barrel lug is bigger and required some modifying of the hanguard to fit. I don't know if the m2 hanguard would fit as I didn't have one at the time to play with. There is a 26" m1 field barrel for sale on ebay right now FYI.

Midwest gun works has some M1 barrels; might be worth a look:

Before you continue, please seek professional advise/assistance and/or use proper tools. Ymmv.

I was in a similar situation. Benelli M1 barrels are available, but acquiring one requires a bit of patience and timing. The following link may address your question regarding M1, M2 barrels and forearms.

I am new here but i am wondering do the M1 Field and M2 Field barrels interchange. Or if this has been posted before could you direct me. Thanks a bunch fellas.

When I spoke with the Benelli service rep, he stated the M2 barrels with the M2 forearm can be used on the M1S90. He was aware the M1 forearm could be modified, but advised to use the M2 forearm. Please contact them directly regarding this topic as my experience was from several years ago. Ymmv.

Since I had an extra Benelli M1 forearm, I decided to modify it using accessible hand tools: dremel with a grinding stone, cut-off disks and sand paper. As H8Mud posted, the M2 barrel lug is longer. You will need to remove some material on the M1 forearm for the barrel lug as well as the barrel stop (ring at the M2 barrel extension). Try your best and follow the existing contours to create a proper barrel lug recess. Just an added note.. I have not experienced any issues with 2-3/4" shells and only ran a few boxes of 3" shells for a function test.

          Good luck.

          -top is modified
          -bottom is stock

I didn't remove all of the materials as shown. This made for a solid attachment when assembled. There is enough wiggle room for possible debris, but does not pose an issue with disassembly/reassembly.

Though it may seem minor, creating a relief for the barrel stop was necessary for a proper fit.
