870 and mossberg 500 3.5" shells?

I was thinking I would probably want to shoot some geese with my next shotgun and was wondering if either one of these guns could shoot the 3.5" shells or be modified to shoot the shells? The 500's double barrel combo is on sale right now at Big 5 and I believe the 870 express has a $30 MIR until December so I am trying to decide what to do.

Dont think so. My 590 will only take 3" shells.

If you want a Mossberg that'll do that, get an 835. I had one. They don't kick much at all with 3" 00B, but will knock you the hell over with 3 1/2" 00B. Fun stuff.

The Benelli Nova shoots 3.5" shells, IIRC.

You might be able to find one cheaper than usual, especially used, as the Super Nova is the new hotness.

You are correct. I have a Nova. But trust me you don't want to shoot a 3.5" shell out of that thing. It hurts

870/500/590 will shoot 3.5" but will not cycle....believe me.

Umm... wouldn't reccomend trying it, since the action isn't built for it, and the chamber is a half inch too short.
