If you have a shotgun that uses Invector, you cannot use a Invector DS choke. It has a different screw pattern. Invector DS is for Browning's newer guns. If I recall correctly DS stands for Dual-seal or something like that -- supposedly seals better...

Anyways if your shotgun uses Invector chokes, you'll need to stay with that. The "unscrew with hand" chokes are called "extended chokes". So if you want that you should look for "invector extended chokes".

You'll probably want different constrictions for trap and skeet. For trap I would recommend modified. For skeet I would recommend "skeet". If you don't want to buy two chokes "improved cylinder" is in between those two and you could probably get away with using it for both skeet and trap.

        for which game?

for skeet ideally you would choke the gun skeet / skeet
for american trap you only use one barrel, so ideally you would choke it modified

if you only want to buy two chokes (instead of three) then I would go skeet / improved cylinder. For skeet use the skeet choke for the incoming shot, and the improved cylinder for the outgoing shot. For trap just use the improved cylinder.

If it's a new Winchester 101 it should use Invector+ chokes.

ah yes to the OP make sure you get the right chokes. As you can see there are Invector, Invector+, and Invector DS chokes.

Beretta is just as bad with their mobil, Optima, Optima+, and Optima HP chokes.

                Thanks again for everyone's input.

Base on Winchester web site, looks like my 101 will handle the Invector + choke...

Now should I get the Winchester one or any brand name will do??

Any brand will do, however, IIRC the FN/Winchester extended chokes are made by Briley, and are very good. If you don't go with those, go with Carlsons...

Lets back up a bit....Winchester takes two different ckoke tubes ---Invector or Invector + , Depends on the age of the 101. Newer (Invector +) , older models take the Invector. INV+ are about 2 1/2" long and the older INV are about 1 1/2" long...so take one out of your 101 and measure to see which you have

Both are the same choke tubes made for Browning shotguns...so Browning tubes will work fine and are good quality tubes.

Help you verify your choke configuration and also many options for chokes for your gun.

FWIW, the typical use of a O/U is to shoot the bottom barrel first...with the more open choke.

Let me guess - my new choke for my Win 101 will NOT work on my Remington then?

No current production Browning or Winchester takes Invector chokes. All current Winchesters take Invector Plus. Current production Brownings take Invector Plus or DS. Could be an exception but current model Brownings, from the oldest through the Maxus use Invector Plus. Anything after Maxus uses DS. DS Invector chokes have a brass band band on the bottom of the choke that acts as a seal. OEM Invector Plus chokes pattern worse than any factory choke I've used, I own five shotguns that use them. I have Carlson's and Trulock extended chokes for them. I feel Carlson's and Trulock are as good as Briley but cost considerably less.
