got one and it is a great shooting gun. I have the gen 2 with the single piston and it rocks. I took it out of the box and did an 800 round shotgun course with out a single problem. Its fast, and soft shooting. This has turned into my favorite shotgun. -
How can you tell if it's a gen 1 vs gen 2? (aside from the single piston) And are there any other differences between the generations?
And do you know if this is a gen 1 or 2?
Thanks!Comment

Gen1 comes with 2 gas pistons. One for lighter loads.NRA Life Member and Certified Instructor: Pistol - Rifle - Shotgun - PPITH - PPOTH - NRA Certified RSO

I have a Gen 1. It took about 1200 rounds of high base (#6, 00, and slugs) before it would cycle low base. That was with the lighter load piston. I still haven't tested the higher load piston. But 1200 rounds of break-in is excessive IMHO.
Now it runs flawlessly, even on cheap Wally World bulk Federal or Winchester #8.
It sort of drives me nuts they call it competition ready. It's not. The loading port is not beveled. It needs to be. The bolt release is too small. I installed a Nordic Components Speed Button to rectify that. The bolt charging handle is too small and thin. I had to replace it with a Nordic Components SX Bolt Operating Handle. I also swapped out the plastic follower with a Nordic Components aluminum one. The plastic one was sticking.
These are BASIC competition shotgun components and the supposedly race ready SLP Competition didn't come with any of them.
I still need to send it off to someone to have the loading port beveled. I have no idea who does that on FN's though. I don't want to Bubba it myself.
All that being said, I do love the shotgun now and it shore is purdy. It's eye candy at competitions and always gets admiring comments. I shoot it well too, and I guess that's what really matters.
As mentioned by F-2, it's very fast and soft shooting.
Edit: Forgot to mention, I also closed the gap on the lifter at C-Rums. That also should have been done at the factory. I didn't realize C-Rums also did beveling work.Last edited by k1dude; 11-19-2015, 8:50 PM."Show me a young conservative and I'll show you a man without a heart. Before you go the SLP Competition route, make sure you read this thread:

FN SLP is a solid gun. There are a good number of them in competition. Which should tell you something about the basic gun. Maybe not as many as M2's but a good amount. If I was looking for a competition gun, I'd be looking at the Benelli M2, FN SLP and the Remington Versamax which I've heard a lot of good things about lately."Kestryll I wanna lick your doughnut."

I got the Blue FN SLP Competition couple years back when I had to wait almost a year to get it. Absolutely worth the wait, fastest cycling Shotgun I have and like better than the Benelli M4. It does get dirty and requires a more attention, but absolutely love it.Comment
