Escort Magnum Locks Back after Every Shot

Getting ready for deer season so shooting slugs. Never had an issue with this shotgun cycling, until now. Shooting off a lead sled, it locks back after every shot. Filled magazine tube, I have to hit the bolt release every time for the next shell to chamber.

Inspected parts and clean it. Couldn't find anything wrong.

From what I can tell, after firing the first round, the next shell is released from the magazine with its base pushing against the bolt hold open bar which does not stop the bolt from traveling forward. I can only guess that some how the next shell is some how misfeeding and isn't pressing on this bar as designed.

Anyways, the base of the Hornady shells are 4 hundreds smaller in diameter than normal base diameters. But I am not sure if that is the reason.

Took some newer Hornady shells out with standard size bases and only had one lock open issue.

The only solutions I could think of are:

    1. Maybe using a leadsled is limiting any inertia required to properly feed the shells?
    2. Weak magazine spring not pushing the shells out fast enough?
    3. Small base shells not feeding properly against the bolt release bolt?

I'll call Escort tomorrow and see what they say

Hand cycle the gun with proper dimensioned shells and note how the shell keeps the bolt from locking open. An undersized rim could definitely make the gun "think" it is empty and therefore the bolt hold-open is actuating every shot.

Thanks Randall. All loads hand cycle fine. I am not sure what the problem is. Well now I am down to a 20% failure rate so something improved. Either the cleaning or the ammo itself. Legacy sports wanted $50 for labor and $22.50 for return shipping to work on it. So about $100 for something I paid $300 for. If it's truly broken something, I kick myself and should have bought an 1187 instead.
