Hawk 982 mag tube extension

I've had my Hawk 982 for about a year now although I haven't shot it very much, but I just recently heard of the Choate mag extension that will add another round as well as make the tube flush with the barrel which I think would look 100x better. I just wanted to see if anyone has added one to theirs and if so, how do you like it ? Was it a difficult install ? I saw where you have to drill holes in the dimples of the mag and I would be concerned that I might mess it up. Has anyone tried any other brands that they'd recommend as well ? Thanks in advance !

Okay, I read your thread, it was VERY INFORMATIVE AND HELPFUL ! I see I'll need to use a 7/32 drill bit since the 3/16 didn't get the dimples out all the way and I was glad to see that you got a full +2 rounds until I read that you were using a different kind of shell, so it looks like it's back to +1, but that's still okay, that's still better than before and the gun looks proper to me with the tube flush (or almost, lol) with the barrel. Thank you for sharing this, I know what I want for Christmas or sooner, ha ha...

Well, I finally got around to ordering one, looking forward to seeing how it goes with the install....

I've installed the Choate mag extension on my 982 Hawk. You will need to drill out the dimples which is really easy. I stayed with the stock follower and went with the Choate spring. This is really important because when the stock spring, a fully loaded magazine tube hung up on the last two shells. I think the extra tension from the Choate helped push the shells easier.

After drilling out the dimples, I smoothed out the burr with a Dremel (using grinding stone attachment). I think its more important that any noticeable burr is made flat to prevent any binding of the spring. Just go slow when taking the metal off so the Dremel doesn't jump and make unnecessary scratches on the inside. I touched the inside of the mag tube with cold blue before reassembling everything.

Okay guys, it arrived earlier this week and yesterday after work, my friend helped me install it. He has a drill press and he filed it afterwards and it looks good. I haven't tried it out yet, but we hope to sometime next week. I used the Choate spring and left the stock follower as you advised. I also took a picture of it, but I don't know how to upload pics from my iPad on here. Thank you Vinny and Mike for your advice and help, I love my Hawk even more now than before. And I liked it before, ha ha..
