Remington 870 name?

    Remington 870 name?

    Anyone know what 870 means or how it got it model number?

      There is probably no special significance to the model number, other than the way Remington determines product. The bigger and more significant item is the name either Wingmaster or Express. I personally have found the Wingmaster's to be a bit better built guns, but that is personal opinion.

            Because it takes an average of 870 revolutions to polish the chamber for shells to eject.

                        I have no idea how Smith came up with their model #'s
                        No idea what book of snakes Colt had on hand


                        nor why the remington model #'s jump from 2 digits to 870 with shotguns....

                          The rust issue is why contemplate spraying it down with alumahyde. If I ever were to commit a crime with my 870, my fingerprints would be apparent before the CSIs arrive.
