DDupleks steel slugs with expanding steel shards that break off from the main bit are another option. Hard to find as they come from Croatia or somewhere central Europe. Check youtube for fun videos

Those look interesting but like you said, hard to find. Right now I'm focusing on products that are available. Also, I prefer slugs that hold together. For my uses, penetration is more desirable than expansion.

you are not supposed to use sabot slugs through a cylinder or smooth bore. Those slugs are meant for shotguns with rifled bbls. anyhow never tried the zinc ones so thats all ill share with ya.

And yet, they are advertised as being designed specifically for smooth-bore:

"These 12-gauge slugs are a new addition to the Winchester family of ammunition. Not only are these slugs lead-free, but they are value priced as well. You no longer have to spend a small fortune to obtain premium quality lead-free slugs for use with smooth bore shotguns."

But thanks for your valuable insight.

Anyway, somehow I have the feeling this thread is about to take a left turn so I'm going to remove my subscription to my own thread and would request a moderator close it as it's clearly going nowhere good. Thanks.
