Hi Guys,
I picked up my wife's barrel dated June 1977 (her birth month and year) 870 Wingmaster 20 gauge. While I was waiting on the 10 day & dros I purchased a 20" improved cylinder smooth bore rifle sight barrel.
Because the receiver wasn't a light weight 20 gauge, I purchased a non-light weight 20" barrel.
When my wife went to put the 20" barrel on the receiver we noticed the ring on the barrel was too small to go over the magazine tube. The 28" barrel that came with the shotgun is fat on the receiver end and tapers quickly to become 20 gauge.
The 28" vent rib barrel from my magnum 12 gauge wingmaster mates to the 20 gauge's receiver perfectly but the slide does not cycle all the way down nor does 12 gauge ammunition fit into the 20 gauge's magazine tube. So from that I conclude this is for sure a 20 gauge wingmaster but what nomenclature do I look for to acquire a 20" rifle sight smooth bore improved cylinder barrel?
The receiver says Remington Wingmaster 870 Serial #T715892X. The barrel that fits the 20 gauge receiver just says 20 gauge for 2 3/4" shells MOD. V PO 33 and on the other side a star followed by Remington Arms Co Inc Ilion NY made in the USA.
I believe that means modified June 1977?
Anyway any help would be much appreciated.
