    Browning BPS mag tube question

I have a new 12ga BPS that was a Shot Show special -- 2 barrels (28", 20"). The magazine does not have the cut-off feature. Can that be retro-fitted by simply replacing the mag tube? The Browning Parts List for the BPS lists this part: B1221848 MAGAZINE TUBE, 12, TRAP (W/ MAGAZINE CUT OFF '07 AND LATER).

If so, can any one point me to a good reference for installing a new mag tube?

    TIA,

    John Land

John, for a BPS, I'd call Browning and ask. You're working with a shotgun you can hand down to your kids, not a new 870 or 500.

This model has a polymer stock, hardly a keepsake, and replacing one stock magazine tube with another stock magazine is not likely to affect its value.

Where is the actual cut-off located on the BPS? I know on my Escort the cut-off is a button on the receiver.

The BPS I have doesn't have a mag cut-off, hence my query about whether one can be added.

I have seen pictures of versions with a button on the side of the receiver. I've also seen pictures where the cut-off activation mechanism *seems* to be built into the mag tube, as in this picture:

Isn't the part with the "S" on it a part of the receiver?

The rotating piece is in front of the receiver and is part of the tube. I don't have my old one with me and never pulled the tube; couldn't find much info in shotgunworld but there is some. Try posting on trapshooters.com too -

I dug mine out not much to see the rotating piece is indeed part of the tube and the S & R are stamped on the receiver.

I recently aquired a Browning BPS trap used at my local sheals store. It is an older modle and when we took it out to shoot every time we shot it, it rotated the cutoff ring from S to a point between S and R. That causes the hands to drop down into action when chocked open. Ive taken the barrel...
