    shotgun noob seeking help/ideas

I posted this in the intro area, but since its more shotgun specific, I'm copy/pasting in here.

ex-Army (nothing frontline/etc) guy that never owned a firearm before, but I'm looking for a general home defense/sheet shotgun. I already have too many hobbies/too lazy/etc etc so I really don't want to spend too much right now to start.

I was first looking into getting a hand gun, but for some reason, a shotgun seems...funner. Doing some small research, I'm considering a Charles Daly semi auto shotgun. Yeah it's cheap, there are some pros: limited lifetime warranty, good customer service, Remington chokes fit, and its cheap.

Another one I was looking at was Stoeger Model 2000 since its Inertia Driven system, Benelli owned company, only 1 year warranty.

So what would be a better buy?
What size barrel should I look for? 26/28/24?
What costs am I looking at? Cost of gun + Tax + ?
I was thinking of buying it online, how is this different from buying it locally?

    thanks guys!

If you want to go inexpensive, I'd check the classified ads here and bulletin boards at your clubs. Get a better "name brand" used shotgun. If you decide you don't want it, you won't take a beating selling it.

look at big 5 and wait to see the mossberg 500 on sale, get the 2 barrel combp pack 239 for the shotgun, 25 for DROS and then 17 for tax, and then a 10 dollar lock, so all in all less than 300. and it has a 18.5 inch barrel and i think the 2nd barrel is 26 inches, so you are good to go. you cant get better quality for so cheap!!! IMO
