Tacstar universal shroud on mossberg 500 help

Hey guys, my first post and I need help. So I bought a tacstar universal barrel shroud/heat shield and I wanted it flush with the reciever as I have seen in photos. The big bump at the widest part of the barrel stops it from going all the way back. Can I spread the shield to stretch it over to make it flush? If i dont the potruding points in the shield at the narrow part doesnt seem like it would contact the barrel, would that not effect its efficiency? I have pictures below that i hope posted. Thanks

    Universal?
After many years, I have determined that "universal fit" means it fits nothing in this universe!

    Ha ha welcome to CalGuns!

Yes you can spread the back end only a bit but you will find it is tough to do....the steel will be springy and want to hold its original shape.
If you can find something tapered and round to drive in and slightly spread it that would help.
Just be sure the holding tabs are clear of the action bars.

Yes you can bend the tabs. I have had to adjust things on all the "universal" fit shrouds I have installed.

As ojisan pointed out, make sure the tabs don't interfere with the action bars.

Just finished the heat shield. Looks great, and functions normal. Excuse the lighting. Thanks for the help guys. I had to buy a c-clamp. Did the job

            Well done.

Now you know that "universal" also means "Needs tools and modification to fit".
