    Best recoil pad/shield reccomendations?

I very recently had a pretty rough shoulder surgery, and am looking to see if anyone has any recommendations on what works the best. I am currently looking at the Caldwell super mag plus recoil shield, but I see
Beretta's gel pad as well as several others and recoil pads that go on the stock as well. I'm stupidly hoping if I can find a great setup, and Dr approval friday that I can get out for dove season...after 6 weeks I have enough movement to grip the shotgun...even if I can't raise my arm any higher. So I am looking for whatever will minimize the impact on my shoulder.

Great question. I recently had rotator cuff surgery and am concerned about getting behind my AR-10 (.308) again due to the recoil. I hope you get some great recommendations.

I've always found the Limbsaver pads to work the best on the gun. There are plenty of shotgun vests that will take gel pads also. I have a Beretta vest and pad and it works well. For dove, remember Winchester makes low recoil shells also that really are way softer shooting - we use them for competition all the time.

Several companies also make ported choke tubes which may further reduce your recoil a bit.

Not sure what stock you have, but there is a Limbsaver pad that fits all Magpul stocks that is really great. I have one on my AR-10. Also some really effective muzzle brakes, like the JP tank brake that take recoil almost to nothing.

I have a limbsaver slip on over the base Mossberg 500 pad. It's noticeably more comfortable than the stock pad alone, but it's not a miracle. I'd get one of the many larger plates and use a semi-auto.

Like others have said, Limbsaver makes a great pad.

I also wish you luck on your goal...and I hope I'm wrong for your sake, but I think you're dreaming. I've had five shoulder surgeries...so far...and find that firing a shotgun within the first year post surgery is usually a religious experience. YMMV.

You may want to get a padded shooting jacket too. Just a thought.

My question is more specifically what pads or v
Padded vests should I look at, there are many out there. And yeah I may be dreaming, it was a 3 and a half hour surgery. Multiple repairs.

Vest, look for one that states gel pad pocket (most sell the pad separately) referance the detail .... http://www.cabelas.com/product/Brown...=shooting+vest

** "Sewn-in REACTAR G2 pad system absorbs recoil"

Look for gel recoil pads, remove the one on your gun and add the pad ...don't worry about a great looking fit as you can fix it later. I don't recommend any that slip over your current pad. It will make the LOP to long and if the padded vest is added your going to negate any recoiling reducing properties by having a very long LOP.

One of the best things for reduced recoil is to shoot lighter loads then you would nornally. Some 1oz 2 3/4 Dram will fit that low recoil bill.

Get out there enjoy the hunt , keep it to what you can do and not hurt your shoulder

I had shoulder reconstruction 20 months ago. Ive got 5 anchors holding it together. I use the PAST shield and it does a great job on making me not hate life after i shoot anything bigger than .22

Thanks for the recommendation. I have a DPMS AR-10/LR-308 with a Magpul PRS. I'll look for the "Limbsaver" you mentioned.

I would go with a JS air cushion stock. Not cheap, but will work the best. http://www.jsaircushion.com/

Update, Dr. Said dove season is a go! Said the recoil may make me a little sore, but won't hurt the repairs. Just got to be careful not to fall. I can't believe he actually said I can do it. I'm very excited lol. Bye bye stir crazy.
