Have anyone seen the DP 12 - double barrel shotgun? Looks really interesting. I was considering purchasing Kel Tec KSG but this looks much better. I wanted a bullpup shotgun for home defense. What do you guys think?

Oh Yeah I remember them, they were shilling on another shotgun forum wayyyyyyy before they got introduced. Note that they teamed up with CTD, now doesn't that tell you something.

I am just biased against the gun, its very gimmicky to say the least.

I've put a fewdozen rounds through one, and I have to say that while it's a neat concept, it's gimmicky and a compromise for any job.

It's very heavy. Although it can hold a lot of shells, that also makes it heavier. On the plus side, that weight combined with the bullpup design mitigates the recoil.

The action is very clunky and slow to actuate. Trying to feed and then eject two shells from two separate chambers takes considerably more effort than on most traditional pumps. Ejection is quite violent - most of the brass shows deep gouges. In my time shooting one, I experienced a few feeding/ejection malfunctions and one serious malfunction where during ejection it tore the brass head completely off the case and left the case in the chamber, jamming it up for a good few minutes. Because of the unique setup, it is quite a bit more complicated to clear jams than with a traditional design as well.

If you're used to shooting traditional pump shotguns it will take a bit of training to get used to the two shots per pump; you will constantly want to pump after firing each round out of habit. That of course can be changed with experience, but it's something you'll want to train with if you plan to use it for home defense.

It's really a shotgun that seems like a good idea but doesn't stand out for anything. It's nowhere near as quick as a semi-auto shotgun, so it won't make a sporting impact. You can't hunt or shoot clays with it effectively. It's not as reliable or quick and handy as a traditional pump shotgun...

In the end, I'm glad there are companies pushing new designs and concepts like the DP-12, but at its price point ($1300+) and with its drawbacks, I just don't see a use for it (unless you feel that having 16 round capacity is crucial - its capacity is the only really impressive thing about it).

Anyway, that's my 2 cents. Before you drop the cash see if you can find a range that is renting one you can try.

I just posted the experience I had with my DP-12 from this past Sunday.

My first shotgun is a Benelli Super Vinci, and the DP-12 is my second. And with never using it before, I had no issues with the bullpup design. It chambered very easily and the ejection was not "violent" at all. As for the weight, it is compact and not hanging well past your grip. All in all, if you want one, get one. But fair warning, bring a ***** load of shells when you take it out.

No, I was at the lgs in Palm Desert checking on a smith and wesson stealth hunter 357 revolver. When the guy was looking up the info, I turned around and saw it on the wall. I could not believe what I was looking at. The guy behind the counter handed it to me and that was the end, I was not leaving without doing the dross right then and there.

It has one trigger. For every pump, you pull the trigger two times. Pump, bang bang, pump, bang bang and repeat
