The oversized safety that Vang comp had placed on my 870 is not compatible with the Knoxx Spec Ops stock, so I will need to replace it with the original manufacturer safety. Vang Comp had replaced it, so I never changed it myself. Is the process a relatively simple installation? I notice there is a spring, pin and ball bearing involved in the schematics of the owner's manual. Is there a risk of springs flying into orbit like the front detent installation of an AR?

Changing the safety on a Rem 870

After having changed a few on my shotguns and for friends...YES!!! that little spring can shoot out and disappear into the twilight zone. You need to just be careful.
Changing the safety on an 870 is a relatively easy thing to do, but you must make sure that the spring does not fly out because it is so small, you won't be able to find it unless you are lucky. I was lucky once and don't expect to be lucky ever again. -
I guess another trip to the restroom, where my wife is wondering why I am walking into the bathroom with a rifle or shotgunAfter having changed a few on my shotguns and for friends...YES!!! that little spring can shoot out and disappear into the twilight zone. You need to just be careful.

. Those springs stand out pretty easily in the bathtub (drain closed of course).

That's a very good idea...as long as you don't have dark/black tiles...
Good luck with the safety swap. It really is a simple job.Comment

If you can't change the safety in a 780 without help you shouldn't own a shotgun. Harsh but true.
If you haven't done one before check out Brownells Remington SchmaticsI move slow but I make up for it by shooting poorly.
When I hit the lotto I'm only shooting factory.Comment

??
Vang Comp swapped out the safety while they were doing other work on my 870 a while ago, so I have never had the opportunity until now to change the safety. Just thought I would ask in advance, rather than retrospectively asking how to find another spring for the ball bearing
