I was wondering if anyone has had problems with remington game load ammo 2 3/4 1oz loads. I was using it in my remi 870 and about every 6 to 8 rounds it wouldn't let me eject or rack it again it would get stuck. After a few minutes I would try ejecting the round and it would work fine till 6 rounds later stuck again. Tried some lube and same thing. So I switched to federal 75 rounds no problem. Now that same day I was also shooting my benelli nova with same remington ammo no problems with it shot around 75 rounds of it. Just wondering if anyone has had similar problems.

Remington 870 Failure

It sounds like a completely normal late model 870 with a chamber that needs a bit of polishing.
It's been discussed here weekly...go back a few pages and read forward.

Here is my advice. Sell the gun and warn others.
I had 4 870 Express models and a Wingmaster. All 12 gauge. Every single one of them would choke on low base shells. Some of them would choke every 5-10 rounds. Some would choke one time per box. They all choked. They would lock tight as a drum and I would have to mortar the gun on the ground. Even the Wingmaster!!!
I polished the chambers with the steel wool on a dowel idea. No improvement. I brought each gun to Bolsa Gunsmithing. They polished all the chambers. They all still failed. Every one of them. A couple of the guns went back to them 2 and 3 times. No improvement.
Remington produces crap. Pump guns are supposed to be the most reliable guns in the world. Every time I shoot trap at Prado, I see some poor sucker mortaring his 870.
People will chime in and say their gun is fine. Maybe it is. But, a HUGE number of 870s are not fine.
Move on. Take the hit. You will never fix it.Last edited by Rcjackrabbit; 07-22-2015, 11:36 AM.Comment

It's a known issue with a easy fix.
Use a Nass chamber brush to clean the chamber really good then chuck a smooth chamber brush on a drill and polish the chamber
I chamber honer is also an option but costs a little moreNRA Endowment Life Member

I respect your opinion as it is based on personal experience (rare on the internet.)Here is my advice. Sell the gun and warn others.

I have had nothing but good luck with my 870's. I have a 15 year old Express Magnum that has never missed a beat with whatever ammo I have on hand (Federal, Fiocchi, Remington, etc). I have two Police Trade in Wingmasters that have been utterly reliable as well, to the point that I made them my HD scatterguns upstairs and downstairs.Comment

Shoot all sorts of different ammo until you find the one it likes, then only shoot that. If none of them work, sell the gun buy a Weatherby for the same price or less and love it forever.
I worked at a shooting range, trap and skeet, and I couldn't tell you how many newer age 870s came through that would do that to any type of ammo. Mossberg 500s too, on multiple occasions I told the proud owners of their new mossberg 500 to go return it before they even shot it. Needless to say about 80% of the time the gun didn't shoot out of the box. Or it would jam, or it wouldn't cycle. We had several M500s and 870s as rentals, the 870s lasted 8months until the last one of 13 was broken beyond repair. The M500s barely did better, 1/6 worked out of the box. The rest had cycling issues or jam issues. Idk how long those lasted as I left soon after we got them. And to top it off we had a batch of browning BPS's that we had before the 870s and M500s and I was there not to long ago and all the BPS's still are in working order.... You want a good gun these days it seems like you need deeper pockets too...
This isn't to say older 870s or 500s are bad. 870s from 2008+ I would stay away from and M500s 2009+ stay away from...
That's my 2cents.Last edited by dune870demon; 07-22-2015, 2:47 PM.You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life.Comment

I have a 500 and a buddy has a 870. The best ammo for shooting clay targets we've found for both gun has been Federal target loads.
For whatever reason, we both have some problems with Herters target load, Winchester super target, and RIO game load. So far, the problems occur most often on his 870, and it's already been back to Remington for repairs twice.
While issues ejecting spent shells occur in many different shotgun models, it does seem that the 870 specifically comes up too often.Comment
