    Great 12ga ammo!

Yesterday went shooting, as I do every 4th of July.

    Brought along around 150 rounds of 30.06, 60 rounds 7.62x39, 40 rounds of 7.62x54R, 300 rounds of 9mm, and 200 rounds of 12ga.

Along with the regular 7, 00 buck, and slugs, I brought some "minishells" that I bought. I regarded this purchase as a mistake, because I wasn't even sure they would cycle in my Mossberg 500's, as they were about half the size of a regular shell, if that.

However these were the hit of the day. The kick is way lighter, they cycled perfectly, they still had a ton of power, and you could fire the shotty like a machine gun. I had a total blast with them, and the 50 or so rounds I had brought of it was gone in no time. I still have 80% of the #7 and 95% of the slugs and 00 buck that I brought.

If you don't know what I'm talking about, it's this:

That's what I shot. I didn't buy it from there, but the stuff is CHEAP to shoot. Not as bulky too.

Check it out sometime, for those of you that enjoy slugs

cheaper here (currently on sale), the slugs anyways:
Catalog of Aguila Ammunition products: specialty .22 ammo like Super Colibri and Sniper SubSonic - SSS, 12ga minishells in buckshot and slugs, and innovative IQ hollowpoints in 9mm, .45 ACP (Auto), and .40 S&W.

(look out for the shipping charges)

Maker says works in Winny 1300, and needs SG modification in other SG's to work great... a search shows it has some spotty results (some with 1300's that wont cycle it, and some with 1300's that will)

i just ordered a few to play with on your advice...

I ordered them a while ago, not really sure that they would cycle, and figuring that, at the price, they still wouldn't be a horrible idea. Turns out that the lower kick made it great for the younger members and women of the shooting party, the higher capacity made it a whole lot more fun, and the price made it a whole lot better for me...

My only regret was that I didn't bring enough

i wonder if a 1300 can be messed with (legally) to work like the old trench guns, where you could hold the trigger down, and rapidly pump, and it would fire when the rack was fully fowarded... as i suspect this would be an awesome display of lead with those 7 1/2 flying out that fast...

These aren't really even all that hard to make if you have a roll crimper that you chuck into a drill press. I made some shells like this in years past. The Roll crimp can be used on any length hull, so if you have some AA's that the crimp is nearly shot off, you can cut the crimp down, use some AA12R wads and roll crimp the hull to make shorter than normal shells.

They work ok for target load shells. The neccesary items can be purchased from Ballistic Products.

Here's a range report I posted some time back on using Minishells in my 1300 Defender - http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...ad.php?t=19044

                I hadn't heard about them working in a Mossberg 500 - that's good info.

My kids like them because of the light recoil. The pattern's a little sparse compared to a standard shell, but they definitely have their place.

                  Cheap as snot...

Yeah, they worked perfectly in my Mossberg 500's, I loved them......

Here's the cheapest place I found them, roughly $35 for 100 shots...

That's not bad, depending on shipping costs.

I pay about the same at the San Jose gun show, but you can't always find a lot of them in stock at the lowest prices. Here's what I paid last time I picked them up:

                    Slugs - $8.50/box
                    7.5 - $7/box
                    4B+1B - $9/box
