FN Self Loading Police (SLP) / X2 question

I have a FN SLP on the way and I have a few questions.

I believe this shotgun comes with 2 chokes - Mod. & IC, is one more suited for slugs and the other buck (& if so which is which)? & is there any other chokes I should look into for this intended purpose?

From my research it seems that the light piston is basically for all 2 3/4 shells, while the heavy piston is for the 3". Is this correct?

Not that I plan on doing it, but what damage (if any) would result from firing hot 3" shells while using the light piston?

Since this will be a HD weapon, can anyone who operates the SLP or X2 recomend a reliable brand/shell that cycles & patterns well in this platform?

My SLP had trouble cycling low-recoil rounds, even with the light-load gas ring, until I polished the plunger at the end of the spring.

Mine had trouble with light loads for the first 50-75 rounds but now runs perfectly with Federal low recoil buckshot.

Generally you shoot slugs with a more open choke so the IC choke would be it of those two. I would get a rifled choke tube for slugs only.

The modified choke tube will get you more effective range by holding the buckshot pattern tighter at longer distances than the IC choke.

IC is more appropriate for slugs.
I would not shoot slugs through the modified choke.

The standard MO seems to be shooting about 200-250 rounds of #6 high-base field loads through it without cleaning to break it in. After that they seem to run right.

As for the pistons, the manual states that the heavy piston is for loads of over 1 1/2 oz, which is a MASSIVELY huge one. The "light" piston is really for just about everything, and will not reliably cycle low-recoil stuff. The low-recoil loads shouldn't be used for HD in autos and are designed for use in pump guns.

I really like my SLP and find the build quality to be exceptional. I'm looking to add some tritium sights and a side-saddle in the near future to mine.

Have you found any 00 or #4 thats seems to work well for you? As for the side saddle, are you thinking bolt on or velcro?

It should eat any regular 2 3/4 loads. Right now I'm using 2 3/4 full power TAP loads in 00 buck. I'm still not sold on the side saddle yet, but I'm also interested to know when the Tri-Rail will come out so I can stick a light on it.
