JM Pro 22" or 24" barrel.

I'm looking to purchase a Mossberg JM Pro and was not sure if I should go 22" or 24" barrel.

I was thinking about having a SHTF semi-auto shotgun but for practical purposes maybe use it for future 3 gun.

Can I use a 24" for Clays or is it "considered" too short of a barrel?

    Any advice?

For trap/skeet/clays, I think the standard is at least 26".
For trap, I prefer 28", I think skeet is typically preferred 26-28.
    Never shot sporting clays.

I would say, the longer the better.

Check with your local ranges, 24" may or may not be ok.
      For me, I usually shoot a 30" gun for Skeet, Trap, 5-Stand and Sporting. When I shoot sub-gauge it's a 28"...

Mossberg barrels are reasonably priced. If you need a SHTF gun buy the 22" now, then you can always get a longer barrel later for clays or skeet.

I did the same thing with my Mossberg 930 SPX. It came with an 18.5", but when I take it for clays I've got a 28" I put on it (Mossberg 93021). Two guns in one.

Check with your local clay target shooting range and ask if they have a min barrel length limit. Some of them do and you don't want to buy a shotgun only to find out you can't shoot there due to its barrel being too short.

            ><

22" or 24"....I'd go with the 24. I don't shoot 3 gun but all the vids of the top shooters in 3 gun, barrels seem to go longer rather then short.

For clays ....learn the range rules where you will be shooting and follow them...nobody is going to give your 24" rather then a 26" barrel a second look as long as your safe and follow the rules (ie one shell loaded for singles, action open when not shooting, ect)
This I know from experience....I have shot my BPS 22" barrel at ranges with a 26" min requirement and nobody said a peep. Showing up with a gun set up for field/clays will also be best.

My Brother and I both bought the 24" because that's the model Big 5 carried. We don't shoot 3 Gun but do shoot a lot of clays as Bro bought a Champion Wheelybird automatic thrower. We don't have any problem hitting clays out to 40-50yds. The JM Pro is basically a Mossberg 930 with some different parts to make it an entry-level 3 Gun competition gun. A standard 930 28" vent rib barrel will work on the JM Pro but I asked on the Brian Enos Shotgun forum if it would make any appreciable difference as to improving hit ratio over the 24" barrel and was told it wouldn't.

I went with the 24", I only shoot 3 gun with it. 1 Additional round in the mag tube and perhaps little more velocity than the 22" for that tough steel. I've never found it too long for 3 gun.

I have tried to shoot trap from the 27 yard line, and it is real tough with the single front sight and barrel. Though that could be because I've never patterned it at that distance... I had no problem from 16 yards.
