LSI Pointer 12 gauge O/U - any good?

I was at a trap match over the weekend and, as always, I was admiring all the beautiful shotguns on the rack. One gentleman had a shotgun that I have never seen. I asked him about it and he said it is a new LSI Pointer. He was trying it out and getting his feet wet again after a long hiatus from shooting.

Anyway, the shotgun looked really nice. The owner said it was a bargain at about $500. I did not get a chance to hold it or shoulder it but I think I want one. I have always wanted an O/U but am too cheap to spring for a Browning. This would be my first entry level O/U.

Anyone own one or have shot one? I am wondering about quality and longevity. I hope it is better than a Stoeger at the very least.

The one at the range was the 12 gauge with 28" barrels.

    Any feedback would be appreciated.

    ><

There is cheep and there is frugal, if you want to be frugal buy a used quality shotgun at a good price. 10x the quality, reliabilaty and resale value at 2x the price.

Thanks for the advice. I was thinking the same thing but have been unsuccessful in finding a 32" O/U that is somewhat affordable.

I was finally able to check them out at a LGS. Not too bad. Wood is plain but everything else seems decent. Not as pretty as the "B" brand o/u but nice for a lower priced o/u. Price was $550+ tax and DROS.

A $2k "B" gun will likley last more than 4x as long as one of those. So, which is the better deal?

I've got a Remington Spartan 310 (rebranded Baikal) that I bought at Big 5 for $500. It's a no frills Russian O/U that works every time. If I had to guess, I'd put the number of rounds I've put through it at 4,000. Not a single issue with it.

I've never heard of LSI before, but if it's cheap enough to get you into a gun and shooting, then by all means, buy it. The $1500 you save over buying a Citori will buy you 55 100 round boxes of target ammo at Walmart. The one thing I've noticed with O/U is, no matter the sale price, they tend to hold their value well. If it sucks, you can probably pass it along for very close to what you paid for it.

While I agree with on this. I hate to discount all the other Turkish made shotguns because of price or initial reputation. I am struggling to find a decently priced o/u in my area. That is why I am looking at these "no name" offerings.

These are impoted by Legacy Sports and I believe are made by Hatsan (could be wrong). I only found out about them at a trap match. There was a gentleman getting back into shooting and trying out his new LSI. He said it was affordable and very nice to shoot.

Any current model name brand o/u will start out at $2500 and go up from there. Look for a used one, and save some money.

I am certainly trying but failing miserably. No one in the Sacramento area wants to give up their o/u.

It boils down to how much do you plan on shooting the gun?
If you are going to be a casual shooter, going out a few times a year, then that gun will probably work well and last many years. If, however, you plan on shooting a couple hundred shells a week, the gun will likely not last a year...

Several days ago there were two used Citori's for sale at The Range and at Hoffmeyers in Grass Valley. One is nearly new and the other in very good condition. Both are 12 gauge with screw in chokes.

Work permitting, I usually shoot trap and average about 500 shells a month. I would normally shoot more but I can never get away from work to make the trap matches.

Seriously, buy a Beretta A300 and be done with it. Shoot it for a few months, and you can get most of your money back if you decide to sell it.
