    1903 Browning A5

    Hey all,

I picked up a new addition this weekend. It's a 1903 A5. It's not number's matching unfortunately, but honestly i'm not worried about it as i didn't pick it up for investment or "collectability". The stock was split from butt to receiver long ago. The barrel was replaced with a Savage barrel a few years ago. But the receiver, bolt and main parts are all functioning. the fore grip and stock are original.

It's unlike any i've seen. The stock is straight, not a pistol grip, there's no single shot toggle. The Breach release button isn't ribbed, it's smooth. It was browned, and most is warn off. But it cycles. Best part, i got it cheap.

The stock was repaired a number of times over the years, and it split again during testing. I repaired it again today. the last time it was put together with either epoxy or rosin, not glue.

I'd like to get a replacement stock to use when, and if, i shoot it from time to time. I can't freaking find one. lol

I'd like to get a Browning Cockerill steel barrel for it to get it back to how it was from the factory.

Any one have any info or advice?

    Thanks in advance.

Boyd's makes stocks, but you'll probably have to reshape it to straight. You can find barrels on eBay now and then, but they'll most likely be more than you paid for the gun.

I have a similar gun for sale for parts. Straight grip, matching numbers. The receiver is cracked but the rest of the parts are serviceable. It can be sold as a complete gun, or I'll scrap the receiver and sell off the rest as a parts kit.
      PM if interested.

Hmmm, I also have an auto 5, but year 1964. I put a composite stock and forearm on it and modified the but end as to save the original wood furniture.

I also repair weld a good number of receivers. A picture of both would be worth a thousand words.

My camera died a few days back. New one should be here anytime now. I'll get some pictures up in a few days.

I'll get on it later today. I'm working now. I got the stock glued back together, but i'm nervous to put rounds thru it. I'm sure i can't hurt it more, but still....

            PM sent Ken.

It's a shock to see that if it isn't a Mossberg 500 or Remington 870, you'll be shelling out a few Bens for a barrel.
A few years ago, I found an early A5 with a shortened barrel and a Polychoke on it. I went shopping for a new barrel, only to find that I'd be just as well off by finding another shotgun.
That led me to my 1967 A5 with 30'' barrel, that's near mint, and I still paid less than I have seen barrels listed for.
I didn't know the Savage barrels would interchange. My Remington 11 barrels are a bit different than the Brownings.

I'm pretty sure I have a Belgium browning barrel for that gun. Ribbed. Full choke. White bead I think. It is in very good condition if remember correctly.

Pm me if you are interested. As I have to get it out of cosmo to get pics.

Well.....Savage barrels aren't interchangeable...unless you have a gun smith for an Uncle. He had to add a second ejector, and cut something else.

Dug it out. It is a FN gun marked "Acier Special" with straight grip. Suicide safety, ser no 62XXX.
I'll get pictures up in a few days.

Not to be difficult...but that's the wrong barrel for this gun. I'd like to get the Cockerill barrel. Unless i'm mistaken, the Aceril Special was later.

60000 range is somewhere in the 20's I think.
The wood is in good shape.
