Takedown Hard Case for Superposed - worth it?

    Hi All,

Have a Browning Superposed that I have been debating getting a takedown hardcase for - not really sure why, just like the idea of a soft velvety case for it - seems so distinguished

Anywho, those stinkin cases are hundred to several hundred dollars each, which makes me wonder, are they worth it?

Is there any worry to always pulling the barrel off and on a Superposed to stick into a takedown case?

Right now it just hangs out, in all its naked glory, in my bathroom next to the tub, but this seems soo ignoble.

    What say y'all?

    Thanks,

    CnB

Personally, just personally -- if any of my long guns (nice ones, not beaters) have wood stock, I would put them in hard cases.

I once used a soft case for one of my O/U's, and put it in the trunk of my car. Somehow something in the trunk (ammo box, water cooler, etc.) moved around during the ride to the range, and nudged a mark on the wood stock.

Now I better be safe than sorry, and use hard cases... it doesn't need to be an expensive hard case. Even Browning makes some reasonably priced hard cases, like the Mirage -- $32 from Amazon.

For a nicer takedown case, I like the Bulldog Pinnacle. Soft leather exterior, fully-lined micro fiber interior, built-in locks, tied-down straps, divided adjustable compartments (for chokes, tools, etc.) Amazon has it for $148. A quality product, I'd recommend it for its price.

    Hope it helps.

I've got a $2500 gun, so a couple of hundred for a travel case seemed reasonable.

On the other hand, all of my o/u live in these around town

While I have a hard case, Americase, for my over and under and like it, it is very heavy, especially with the weight of the gun, 4 sets if tubes, cleaning stuff and many chokes.

It weighs in the neighborhood of 30+ pounds.

The case however is well built, airline approved and protects your firearm, which ultimately is what you want a case to do.

Parked on steep driveway a few years ago and opening the rear SUV tailgate, it slid right out onto the concrete. A very minor dent on the corner was all that was damaged. Gun and contents zero harm. Not a huge crash, but none the less could have damaged a wooden stock easily if it were in a soft case.

It's also good because I do have extra shooting gear in the box. Works for me anyway.

SKB makes a soft takedown case for $ 70.00 Amazon. Sorry no link, on my phone.

Ditto that. I only use my hard breakdown cases for travel. For local shooting, I use a quality padded canvas long case and all of my guns get the additional comfort of VCI gun socks and Remington rust inhibitor snap cap plugs.

I have hard takedown cases for my O/U's, while they do offer very good protection, I don't like using them. Driving a car with a trunk makes putting the guns together a pain in the butt. If I had a truck where I could have the tail gate as a work bench, it would probably be a different story.

              I use these cases now...

They are well padded and offer good protection, not as good as a hard case, but very good for a soft case....

                Thanks everyone for the input!

Sounds like a hard takedown case is the way to go for travel but aside from that, overkill for anything else.

I have a browning leather hardcase for my superposed Belgium and a guy offered me 200 bucks for it and I said no not in this lifetime. Has the felt lining and the browning cleaning kit in silk case. I have had it for 45 years.

I have the exact same green Boyds take down case shown in a couple of the above posts. I find that long gun cases are just plain easier to use. I guess I'm lazy, but I find it a pain to break down or assemble my Citori every time I use it, so I don't use it much. I prefer a full length case.

Yep, for travel I just put my soft case in my Tuffpak (along with a ton of other crap)

The SKS takedown case is a great value as well as an excellent TDown case.

I do it for my Stoeger.

3 clicks and its appart. Actually probably takes less time to break that down and throw it in my pack than fumble with my long guns into their bags and stuff them in the trunk.
