Have a new shooter to bring out. Just need to find the best day.

                  So Dave,
                  What dates are you attending?

Working on my schedule - every Saturday morning through July is taken with dog training (of the new dog, not me) in Santa Clarita, and I do have to get in some conditioning hikes before I summit Mt. Whitney at the end of August, so...I'll be at a couple, just not sure which yet.

Glad to see the Sunday dates. Since I opened my concealed carry store, and were scheduled open Thursday - Saturday, makes taking the Saturday's off difficult.

                        Wow! Congratulations on the store!

Bring some friends and come shoot a Sunday clinic or two!

Thank you. The store is small and hard to find, but were trying to give everyone a chance to try solutions before spending hard earned cash. Some insights to operation as well.

Would love to bring my landlord. He is a dyed in the wool target shooter, who after I bought my ATI went out and got a beautiful over-under, that has only seen the indoor range at On-Target. He usually only gets Sunday's off, so grabbing him to go shooting when the wife is off is tough.

My question is there a clinic or class that talks about how to go shoot a round by yourself. I attended the one clinic last year, and then got busy. Have wanted to go out to Prado (closer to me) and shoot a round for fun, but honestly wouldn't know how to set up the automated system to launch the clays. Don't know how that would work. More interested in being able to practice than compete at this point. Sort of like going to the driving range.

Well, first off, I think your landlord would love it so much, he'd almost let you have free rent after coming to a clinic!

Shooting alone as Prado isn't really possible - they assign some staff person to pull for you regardless. I find it not helpful, as 1) if I want to shoot alone, I want to shoot alone, and 2) their staff seems to always feel compelled to comment on misses ("You were high", "You were behind it", et.), which I don't want when I am working on specific things.

But shooting by yourself is very useful once you have a solid foundation to work from. There are two options; a built-in delay using the club's system, and an auto-puller like Clay Delay.

Most systems (at clubs other than Prado) have the ability to set a 3 second, or 1-6 second delay (depending on location) into the target throw. With some more experience, this allows you to shoot in a way that can help build skills. But until you have the fundamentals of foot placement, mount, hold points, and swing down-pat, the delay can be both physically and mentally distracting, preventing true improvement.

An auto puller is a system that you buy and configure to conform to the system at whatever club you are shooting. It typically consists of a transmitter that clips onto your belt, and a receiver that plugs into the club's system. You press a button to arm the trap (thrower) and then call "pull" and the auto puller launches the target. They run about $450 new. I have one and love it.

But if you want to shoot the clay games well, I would strongly caution you against shooting solo just yet. It is too easy to ingrain poor form and bad habits without a solid foundation in the fundamentals of clay target shooting. A foundation that the clinics will provide.

If you've only been to the one clinic, I can assure you the next few clinics would be considerably more helpful and productive, now that you've already been through the introduction.

It's likely that you will meet some more like-minded shooters with similar experience, who may also be looking for someone to shoot with on occasion.

Come on out to clinic and shoot - you will be amazed how much progress you can make from where you are now!

I am sure Triple B would have one of the range staff show you. At Oaktree(depending if the fields are not broken), you put your card in, and push the arrow on the pad pointing north for a 3 second delay. Push it again to disable. Otherwise I just sit or bring a button monkey.

If you are considering a Sunday clinic, let me know. I am working a newbie to come on a Sunday. I am leaning towards Sunday 7-19 if you are interested.
