    Question about "deer barrels"

    Hey all,

I've been shooting clays for a long while and my factory 870 barrel needs an upgrade. I saw a 20" (1.5" longer than mine) with rifle sights (really like those) at Cabelas.

My question is this: These are smoothbore, correct? I'll be able to use it with buck for defense duty and #8 out on the range, right? I'm a "jack of all trades" kind of person and I really like the idea of a little more length and upgraded sights. For fun I shoot hand thrown clays with my .22 and the williams fiber sights work very well for me.

Some are smooth, some rifled. It should state which it is.

It says smoothbore, so I shouldn't worry about it, right?

It'll be fine. But it will not likely have a choke tubes. Just a Cyl or IC bore.

What, exactly, is wrong with the barrel you have?
          It's not PTSD, it's nostalgia.

The 20' Rifle sight barrel that Remington calls the "Deer Barrel" is smooth bore. The Fully Rifled 20" Rifle sight barrel is called a " Fully Rifled Slug Barrel".

If you're going to a gun fight, take a shotgun. If you can't take a shotgun, don't go.

If it says "smooth bore", I'm going to venture a guess that it's smooth bore.
Settle down, folks. The new "ghost gun" regulations probably don't do what you think they do.

Sights are for slugs. You "aim" a shotgun that fires a single projectile.

For shotshells you "point" it. Even the bead or beads are just visual reference points and you don't use them like "sights".

If you "aim" a shotgun using sights on flying targets. You will always be "chasing" the bird with the sights. Not "leading" the bird with a smooth swing and follow through.
